Follow Your Passions

Have you ever noticed how when you may be looking for your passions that you find yourself right smack in the middle of another person's? My oldest daughter found hers a few years ago when she tried out for the 6th grade school play and made it in. Each year since she has been in each play and this year she was the lead. Very exciting to witness her transformation and growth. Very exciting also to see her find her passion and grab on with both arms and both feet. I found that as she explores this that I too open up my mind again to plays, such as my last post was to the Patsy Cline play. There is something really special about watching a school play because we see the same children changing through the years and see first hand how they are becoming more of their art. I love it! Last night the school play performed was called Once Upon a Mattress and Kristen played her role as the queen. Although I still need to go through and edit pictures I am already giddy about scrapbooking them :) Thought I would share about the experience and a picture today of he r with her bff Michael who played her son. Have a great Sunday!

Date Night!

If you have not made a visit by Shannon's place lately you should run by there and take a look at her sketches. She designs some of the best and I submit monthly for her as a design team member. Here is my latest and a link back to her site. Tell her Deb sent you by :)

Earning my OO Status at Fiskateers

Lead Fiskateer Rebecca chose to send some mail my way and so I thought I would share here what I blogged about that on the Fiskateer board as well as the picture I had to go along with it :) Her program is to have us earn Secret Agent 00 status.

Have a great day! Deb♥

Whenever a package arrives from Fed Ex I get super excited thinking about what is inside. Don't you? This time when I opened it I found a new border punch called Double Bubble (which by the way is the perfect name for it!) and a wooden picture frame. I like to think outside of the box so in this case I decided I would think outside of the frame instead ;)

I took a small hammer and beat the frame a little bit just to weather it and then did some sanding. I used a combination of three inks that are of the same value in color and proceeded to randomly apply the ink to the frame and took a little help from a blending tool to get the colors the way I was hoping. While that was drying I used my Stamp Press to stamp flowers to a cardstock which is on the inside of the frame. Using some water color pencils I used the same colors and created my own paper that would match this look I was going for and used the water colored paper to punch out Double Bubbles and an earlier punch called Leaves as well as Flit on By. I stapled the strips together and used a heavy glue to attach to the frame, added some wire around my butterflies rub ons, and a twig from the yard and attached my daughter's picture to the outside of the frame, hence thinking outside the frame.

Take note of the hemp woven through the Double Bubbles on the top of the frame. That was a really cool way to use it!

Hope you will take on a challenge like this and enjoy yourself. It is a lot of fun to come off of our scrapbook pages and create one of a kind art for the home. TFL!

Canvas by Pat

My friends it is hard to believe but Pat's short tour with If It's Groovy come sto a close today. She is such a talented artist and it was fun having her spend some time with us :) She has create a beautiful  canvas that I know you will enjoy seeing!
Deb♥

I saw a tutorial by Lisa Valentine how to do a LO on canvas. http://randomonpurposelife.blogspot.com/ I used a 12x12 canvas purchased from a hobby store. I used glimermist Decadence chalkboard, I used a paper towel to wipe up the excess.I just wanted to make sure my sides & edges of the canvas was done. I cut my paper 11.5 x 11.5, I then distress all the sides of the paper & tore it. I then inked the edges with Vintage Photo ink & used Black soot ink where I tore the paper.I used PVA(you could use Mod Podge)glue on the back of my paper & glued it to the top of my canvas. I cut little pieces off my doily to slip into the torn spots on my paper. I took a Dust Attic corner & sprayed that with the Shimmerz Vibe.I then added the music sheet that I inked & then the doily, the post card, the antique watch face & ribbon. I then pop dotted the photo & added that & the flowers. I then went around with a stamp & inked all 4 sides. Sea Life

I had the pleasure of attending a Stampin' Up Stamp Camp a few nights ago. It was the first time I have gone to one of these and although I have been making cards for a long time I hoped to learn any new techniques available, and play with stamps I don't have. It was so much fun to meet new girls and do exactly what I hoped for! Try one out if you know of one in your area and I know you will love it too! Here is one of the cards we made below:

What was interesting was how we made the sea for the turtle. I don't have step-by-step photo directions since I was in camp, but it happened like this...add hair gel to a jewelry bag along with a small amount of fine glitter. You will adhere this bag on top of your stamped image then adhere cardstock on top of that. Ii is squishy and fun. Give it a try!!! I know I will again :) Deb♥

3 Cheers for Mom!!!

What a wonderful project Michelle has made in honor of her mom, but even more wonderful to me is the beautiful words written about her talented mom!!!
Deb♥

My mom is a sewing queen! She tells me I can do it too all the time!

But I know and I am sure others get the same thoughts and feelings, about their Mom's. "Mom does it better, quicker and can do it without even thinking!"

So, when it comes to alterations, curtains, fabric rolled blinds, pants hemmed, etc. It is usually a "Mom can you get this for me!"

Well, here is a card I made with her in mind...
She was trained as a pattern maker before the digital age.
Worked as a Seamstress for a dry cleaner, bridal shop & word of mouth jobs when we were young.
So, there was always fabric scraps, trims and buttons to play with....BUT the best was her dress form! I would pull out the fabrics and pins and attach them to the dress form and call Mom in to she if she could make my pinned together creations!

Back to Mom, she opened a Bridal business first out of the house and then a store front. Then later went back into pattern making in the digital age. Learned the digital systems and made mock up of those patterns. Just writing this up, amazes me because there is so much she has done......I need to get all those other details and the pictures to show all her creations and beautiful work!

So, Mom gets the credit for sparking my creativity at a young age!

Digi Goodness!

I was completely drawn to this stamp when I first saw it. Just check out what Heather has completed and once you do be sure to click the link to Bugaboo Stamps. When I did I found that they have a freebie each Friday! I am excited!!! Thanks for bringing this to pur attention Heather :)
Deb♥

I love this digital stamp from Bugaboo Stamps! He makes for the perfect sympathy card . . . and that is just what I used him for on these 2 cards. I colored him using copic markers, cut him out and put him on some cards with 7 Gypsies paper in the background. I used the SewStamper for the marks around the edges. Then some mini alphas for the outside sentiment.

Scrapbooking with the Children

This week on the Fiskateer board we have been celebrating Invite a Friend Week for those who have previously been Liftateers and Card Lifters and/or have not been. It has been fun seeing those play along who had the time.

A few weeks ago I invited my daughter Katelyn to play with me as I was working on my project. Here is how my layout turned out

...and here is hers based on the same sketch :)

It is fun to scrapbook with our kids. I hope you try it too!

Getting Sporty

I just love sporty pages! We see so infrequently in the scrappy world sometimes. I wonder if they are just too hard to scrapbook since matching up team colors to our selections of paper is a problem. Hmmm? Well, Tammy has brought to us today a great 2 page layout with her son and his sportyness. It's awesome! Deb♥ Catching up on my son's sports book :) I do my books in "two pagers", probably because that's how I learned, and it stuck! So I got to his spring 2004 basketball photos, and I only had the two big ones...really didn't merit two pages to themselves ;) Then I noticed that he did a summer workshop that I only had a few (and mostly blurry) pictures that my husband took. So to flow them together, I did the block of blue with the starred circles in the middle, and then used the same elements on each page. Makes them work for a two pager, yet sets them apart as two different sessions, KWIM? The paper is Adornit, I used Thickers for the title, and a hodge podge of embellishments I had on hand. Thanks, Tammy :)

Boo to You!

It is never too late to work on your holiday layouts no matter what time of year it is! Check out how lovely of a project Penny has created for her granddaughter :)
Deb♥

This is my granddaughter Madison in her Tinker Bell fairy costume, it was actually a Halloween costume. We took photos of her all day in it, and of course being the model that she is, she never complained. LOL Actually she'll pose as long as you want her too, she's such a little ham!

For this layout I used the following supplies:
Disney's Tinker Bell pattern paper
K & Co. border strip page, this is also where the double hearts came from.
Striped paper is the "B" side of Echo Park line
Pink, light green and beige cardstock
Offray ribbon
Stickeroni flower stickers
Elements Flowers - This would be the larger flower on the top of the page. I purchased these at Walmart YEARS ago.
Eye lash fibers
Brads
tag was bought already with the eyelet inserted, I just added the fairy sticker, and tail.
Small molded flower - Flea Market find
Large Button - Unknown ( I have 1000's of buttons, I have been collecting them since I was very young.
"Madison" letter stickers - No name on the back of these but I have had them forever!
"Sweet" sticker button - unknown.
Tim Holtz ink - Green
The "Woodland Fairy" words were printed on this layout using a Kodak Picture

PEN AND PAPER: Heather

I really struggled with this challenge. Had lots of different ideas but none that I liked. I saw basically this same idea in the CK magazine but it was a digital layout. I knew when I seen it that I wanted to do basically the same thing . . . but in my own words . . . and by using paper and my own handwriting.

I think nothing quite says "old school scrapping" like cutting things out of a magazine. Well, that is what I did for my letters on this page. You literally have the background paper, the mat for the picture, the magazine letters and my doodling and handwriting. And yet, it still has a simple, current look to it!

"Some days I feel like I can do NOTHING right. But then there are days that I can do absolutely ANYTHING."

Happy Easter Projects :)

We here at If It's Groovy hope you have a very blessed Easter and happy family memories. May we all continue to know the blessings we received with the rising of our dear sweet Jesus and know the gift we received because of his death.

We have some projects to share as we celebrate this beautiful time of year too!

Here is mine, a cupcake liner wreath which was so much fun! With loads of glue sticks, a styrofoam wreath, ribbon, a styrofoam Easter decoration, Easter cupcake picks as well as my trusty Fiskars crimper and paper to match my cupcake liners I made this...

Up next is Pat...

Happy Easter!!!
My Lo is of my GD Chloe when she was 3. She was upset, because she didn't want to wear her hat. And as you can see after the hat was off & she found some chocolate in her basket she was all smiles again! LOL
I used all Prima Sweet Fairy collection pattern papers, AC c/s, I cut the little basket, egg, title & bunny with the silhouette Cameo. I inked all the edges. The cluster of flowers in the corner was fussy cut from papers of the same collection.I used a MS punch.

Card was made using A/C cs, the cameo for the bunny & a spellbinders die with the Big Shot for the circle & misc. ribbon.

Michelle made these:

Here is Jean...

I miss the days of finding (or making) the perfect clothes for Easter morning! And, then posing the darling children in said outfits! I made the dress to go with this pinafore which was a gift. That was my son's first Easter and the bow tie looked so cute!!

Did you know cards do not always have to be square?? Here is a fun one I made in the shape of an egg. I used some spring papers and embellies and in a few minutes I had a cute card!

Heather's guys...

Have an eggstroidinary day!

PEN AND PAPER: Pat

Hi!
I am happy to be one of the Groovy Chicks.

For this challenge I used my SU markers & a Crafters Workshop template. To design my back ground. I used AC card stock & a piece of Lilly Bee pattern paper. The photo is myself & my 2 grand daughters.

April 06, 2012

PEN AND PAPER: Jean

Every time we are together, we take a photo of the 4 of us sisters. My nephew's wedding was no exception. I used a charcoal pencil to outline the hexagon shapes. I cut the paper out and was left with banner shaped pieces. Used those below the lace.

PEN AND PAPER: Michelle

I loved having to do this Challenge! I have always wanted to doodle on a page. BUT lacked the confidence to "Just Do It!" So I did get to go a little outside of the box! I did resist the urge to grab some stamps and do my thing.
I recently had this photo taken for a Fiskateers Challenge - wearing my Orange. When I asked my husband to take my picture. My daughter wanted in too! So, if your a Fiskateer, you will recognize this picture as my profile.
Using some scraps I had. I inked my mat and matted my inked edge photo. I used some Mulberry scraps I had gotten years ago in the Target $1 Bins. Stamped out my title and wet the edges to fray the Mulberry. Inked up my strips and placed them. Got out a few swirl stencils I had. Using a Gold Glitter Pen, Rust Marker and Cocoa Marker got to work. Added the bird and circle acrylic tags. Thanks for the Challenge, Deb!

You're welcome Michelle! Glad you went outside of your comfort zone and doodled! Great job :)

PEN AND PAPER: Tammy

When I heard this challenge, I immediately thought of mixed media projects where you use a pen as accents to your project. I actually started this out with the rainbow, cutting each sort of half circle and gluing them to each other. Then I wrote the saying on there. Next I picked out the background paper (this is a 6x6 project). Then I punched clouds from more paper. I drew the lines and the birds on them. Even the edging I did on it all was done with pen. I used Lily Bee paper. Thanks for looking :) Tammy

PEN AND PAPER: Penny

The challenge this month was to create a layout using pen and paper! So I hand drew this turtle. I had seen this turtle on some stationary I had purchased a LONG, LONG time ago, when I was just a teenager, (I think I need to add a few more "long's" in that statement!) and it included this quote:
"I think I've finally flipped!" I loved it so much I learned to draw in from memory. I have drawn it so many times I think I could do it with my eyes closed! I have searched everywhere trying to find out who the original artist was so I could give them credit, but I have not had any luck finding that information.
I also used a hidden journaling block, at the top of the page, I decided on the hidden journaling so that it didn't detract from the page. The journaling reads:
Poor Madison she thought she had the bike riding thing figured out, then she flipped over! Lucky for her Great Granny was there to help her back up, and then she was off again! Bridgeport, Ala. 2008.
The supplies used on this layout are very few, which goes to show that you can make fun pages without expensive supplies.
Supplies:
White and green cardstock (the journaling block is tan, but that was just because it was the closest scrap of paper, within my reach, (gasp!):)
Brown brads - Recollections
Letter Stickers - Making Memories Dot Brown #17000
I hand cut the arrows, and the photo corners are the leftover pieces from making those arrow points. Give this challenge a try yourself and see what you can come up with!
Happy Scrapping! Love Penny

April Challenge, PEN AND PAPER by Deb♥

Hi Challenge Lovers!

This month we here at IIG have a new challenge that we hope you will like. It is actually pretty simple because it is one that goes old school. I asked the girls to do the following:
You may choose to use patterned paper but
make sure that your ink of choice can show up.
You can use any type of ink such as markers,
pen(cil), gel pens, as long as it is a writing
instrument. Put your thinking cap on and go
old school before we had all of the
embellishments we have today,
but make it feel current :)

I chose to scrapbook some of my favorite old pics of my precious dog that I loved so much. Those old school pics can be so hard to scrapbook using embellies we find today. The colors seem to be so off to me. This became the perfect time to scrapbook these photos of us :) I used a stencil to doodle in white then just scratched in more of the white gel to add more color and drew lines around the edges. Simple.

Hope you will show us what you can do with this challenge too!
