HAVE A HEART: HEATHER

One word should sum up my thoughts on this one by Heather...
GORGEOUS!
Deb♥

I had so much fun making this lo! It is a semi-scraplift of MandaK over at sb.com but I had to make it my own you know!!! We had this pic of my hubby and I taken over the Christmas holidays at a family event. I needed a pic of him and I to use on some photo trays (coming soon for your viewing) that I was making for Christmas gifts. So, what better pic to use when I need to do a layout that includes hearts!!!! I love to distress!!! I have never wrinkled the paper like this though and I love the effect!

To wrinkle the paper, I just kind of pushed and folded it around. Then I sprayed it with a little water and dried it with my heat tool, while kind of forming it into place. Then I took fired brick distress ink over the tops of the folds.

I stamped all the little hearts on the pages using black soot distress ink. Didn't care for the way they turned out so I used some red Smooch Spritz to highlight the corners and cover/make the hearts stand out without being overpowering. This was the first time I have used the Smooch Spritz. I am normally a diehard Glimmer Mister, but I really liked it and it does give a different look then GM does!

I played around with the shadowing and highlighting in picassa to make the pic the color I wanted. (Was actually trying to hide the sign behind us with cropping the pic down any further!)

So, what does your heart beat for? A spouse? Your kids? A pet? A hobby? Show us!!!

God Bless, Heather

HAVE A HEART: NATALIE

Today we have a layout created by Natalie. She is ready for Valentine's Day, just needs to snap a few pics of her sweeties and she will have a completed layout. Have you tried to create layouts without pictures? It can save you a lot of time!
Deb♥

I made this layout with My Mind's Eye paper for the background and large border strip. The scalloped heart is Basic Grey paper from a couple years ago. The cupid and heart sentiments are from the Lovestruck 2010 Cricut Cartridge. I altered the words inside the hearts with my Gypsy, using the hide function I hid the original lettering and put in my own letters from Plantin Schoolbook and then grouped them together! I stickled the sentiment hearts with Diamond. The large heart is cut *I think* from Lovestruck as well. I distressed it with Tim Holtz firebrick red and Stampin Up! Real red. The heart ribbon used for the arrow is from Michael's. The picture mats and journal box are from Creative Memories.

I wanted to create a style that reflected romantic blendid with childhood memories of receiving candy hearts from your classmates and maybe the occasional cute boy!!! I left the picture mats blank because I am waiting to take pictures of my husband I. The journal gives thanks to St. Valentine with inspiration from this excerpt from http://www.infoplease.com/spot/valentinesdayhistory.html

"Most scholars believe that the St. Valentine of the holiday was a priest who attracted the disfavor of Roman emperor Claudius II around 270. At this stage, the factual ends and the mythic begins. According to one legend, Claudius II had prohibited marriage for young men, claiming that bachelors made better soldiers. Valentine continued to secretly perform marriage ceremonies but was eventually apprehended by the Romans and put to death. Another legend has it that Valentine, imprisoned by Claudius, fell in love with the daughter of his jailer. Before he was executed, he allegedly sent her a letter signed "from your Valentine." Probably the most plausible story surrounding St. Valentine is one not focused on Eros (passionate love) but on agape (Christian love): he was martyred for refusing to renounce his religion."

I plan to value Valentine's Day by using this holiday/myth to teach my children about it's history and making a special dinner and dessert for my love, my hubby! I love being able tie Christian love into our American holidays which seem to have just become another day to buy junk you don't need and gifts that wither and die, break your wallet, or make you fat!!!

HAVE A HEART: Groovy Deb♥

Some Thoughts About This Layout
*I ADORE hearts! I have signed my name with a heart at the end for as long as I can remember and they spread happiness :) Have to use them!

*I wanted to put together a simple and clean heart layout with just two colors.

*Aim for the picture to be the center of attention

*My daughter reminded me of little girls hiding in the clothes in this picture so I cut out the dresses using my paper doll Cricut cartridge and added little tiny hearts on the left of each using a hand held punch by Fiskars.

*Be sure to enter the challenge this month with your own heart layout!

HAVE A HEART: SARAH

As we enter into the days before Valentine's Day, Sarah is here today to show us a beautiful combination of color that is outside of the ordinary and absolutely a wonderful way to show love to someone. Give it a try :) Here she is telling us about it...
Deb♥

Grey and yellow is my favorite color combination to work with right now. I just "happened" to recently purchase some grey and yellow mist from Studio Calico and jumped at the chance to use it. I used a heart stencil to cut hearts out from some scrap paper. I also used some of those stencils to create a "mask" of hearts and misted over them. I then stitched through the hearts to connect them. The title at the bottom is a rub-on that I thought was just gorgeous. I love this page and I'm so happy about the way it turned out!

HAVE A HEART: DARLENE

This month the challenge here at If It's Groovy is to "Have a Heart!" The Groovy Chicks are going to show you a month full of heartfelt projects and beginning the month is Darlene. Here she is!
Deb♥

My daughter was such cutie pie in the summer of ‘08 with her little bathing suit and her tender baby love. :) I so miss these days, when she was so small and so sweet. I found this picture of her and knew I had to scrap it with this sweethearts theme… after all, she is my sweetest sweetheart. :)

I used a glittery Martha Stewart paper collection (clearance at Walmart) and used only 2 sheets of paper, because I utilized the front and back patterned designs to make my embellishments throughout. I doodled all the hearts on the blue background paper, cut out glittery patterned paper buttons, and cut out all of the hearts freehand from the same background paper (I cut out a square that would be covered by the center matting).

I tried a new technique with the 3D-ness of the scalloped circles. I used some old Basic Grey chipboard as the adhesive for the 3D effect on the scallops and hearts-- this worked even better than using expensive 3D dimensional tape! Next time your low or out of dimensional tape, look through your chipboard for ones you don’t like or won’t ever use, and create instant height and dimension on your projects. :)

Just because it’s February doesn’t mean you have you scrapbook all red, white, and pink colors—try other colors with a heart theme to get into the Valentine mood and see what you can come up with. :)

Come share your heart(ful) creations with us for February’s Have a Heart Challenge on If It’s Groovy!
