Trick or Treat Partying

One of the best things I have found when it comes to taking my daughter Katelyn out for Halloween is the reemergence of friends she has not seen for a long time. She is a third grader this year and these girls are two that she met in her preschool year before Kindergarten. Every day she would come home from her class and play school making sure to include these girls in her imaginary classroom. It is so nice to see them back together and I hope they can maintain friendships in the years to come :)This was a night they celebrated at a church Halloween party. TFL and here's to getting those costumes finished up if you are sewing this week!!!

Fall Fun

Rochelle has come by today with a beautiful Fall layout. I find that the colors of Fall are so enriching to scrapbook. You too?
Deb♥

Rochelle said this about her lo:
What is Halloween without a visit to the Pumpkin Patch???   Rochelle here just to share with you a layout  of my kids and I picking our pumpkins to carve on Halloween!! This is one of our fall activities we love to do just before Halloween!  I used a sketch by Stuck on you Sketch and Echo Park's Apothecary Collection.

That FREEBIE at Walgreens

Did you get the latest freebie at Walgreens when they had the free  8x10? I only develop  my pictures there unless I need something quick then I use a Kodak kiosk. I adore when they give us freebies! Don't you?

Here is my latest 8x10 that I got for free made into a layout of my girls at the pumpkin patch. They cut Kristen's head off a little bit but because I was so excited to scrapbook  I went with it :) Keep you eyes peeled on IIG because if I hear of anymore freebies I will make sure you know it!!!

TFL! Deb♥

Brenda's Creeping Me Out!

OMGosh! I am  creeped out  by Brenda's  AWESOME layout! Isn't Halloween a fun time to be spooked? All in fun :) Deb♥

Hi Everyone! It is that spooky time of the year when we not only see pumpkins but mums, ghosts and a host of other creepy looking things.  I do not scrap a lot of Halloween photos, but I was in Las Vegas a few weeks ago and went downtown to the Fremont Experience OktobeFrightFest.

I made this layout as a companion page for another layout I created for a November DT assignment at SOS.   This page came together using a card sketch by Valerie Salmon of Got Sketch and some of my older stash of EP Apothecary.

Thanks for stopping by today and have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Bad to the Bone

Owooow!

Would you look at these two? Kelly and her handsome hubby look  awesome dressed up!!!
Deb♥

From Kelly:

I absolutely love Halloween layouts. For some reason they just turn out so cute no matter what you put together! I dug through a few years of photos and found this one of hubby and I in 2004 as a pirate and his wench. What a hoot it was that year and we had so much fun. We dressed up several years in a row while our boys were young. I used the fun Authentique Enchanted collection for this layout and a great sketch from Scrapbook Steals back in June. I pulled out my Expression to cut the journal block and my Martha Stewart border punch for the haunted fence. I love this time of year and all the holidays! I hope you are inspired to scrap some Halloween too! :)

Halloween is getting very close! Here is a collage picture of my girls last year after a night of Halloween fun at church where they had Trunk or Treat for the kids as well as games, food and fun :) Do you see the "ghost" shadowing over the picture???

Orange Blog Hop

Welcome to the Third Annual Fiskateers ORANGE Blog Hop!  If you're hopping along, you should have come from Cindy's.  (If you are joining us in the middle, go to www.fiskateers.com to start from the beginning.)

Today we are celebrating Fiskars' signature color, ORANGE.  Almost everyone is familiar with Fiskars' famous orange-handled scissors, but Fiskars makes so many other wonderful products for crafting, sewing, gardening, and more.  Each stop along our Hop will feature different Fiskars' products with a big helping of ORANGE!

For you I have made a Halloween wreath where I have used my Seal of Approval Squeeze Punch. I adore the squeeze  punches because they are so easy to use that even if you have Arthritis you will find them easily operated :) Sorry about the glare on picture 3 but because of the lights I cannot get a better one :/

Here is a picture of the punch I used today:

Candy Corn, Yummy!

I know those of you with young children may have heard the song "I don't like Candy Corn!" when it plays on the kid channel at Halloween time. I have seen it for several years now, and I don't...but having said that...I think I like it now thanks to Heather ;) Deb♥

Heather said:
Well, I am sure ALL of you know about Pinterest by now!  So a few of my coworkers are definitely addicted.  Well, we decided to have a Pinterest day and make a few of our fave items that we have pinned.  These Trick or Treat blocks were chosen  by a coworker!!!  But we made them from scratch!

We actually cut 2x4's into the triangles with a power saw!  And sanded them with a power sander!  There is just nothing like women with power tools!!!!!!!!  After we cut and sanded three blocks per person,we painted them all black.  We then painted the layered candy corn colors.  After they dried, we sanded them just a little more just to let some of the black come back through and give that distressed look that our IIG followers know that I love!  Stenciled the words on it and we were done!!  All of this for less than $2!!!!  Only thing we had to purchase was the 2x4's!

So what will it be for you this Halloween?  The Trick? or The Treat?  I am definitely all about the treats!

Jean's Haunted House

FANTASTIC idea from Jean today...I can see myself trying this one! Youtoo? Deb♥ Have an empty cracker box? A stash of Halloween papers? Webbing? Then you have everything you need to make a Halloween display. I covered the box and set it on a cardboard base. The twigs are from the yard and the pumpkins are actually nuts that I painted. I added some foam stickers and Halloween odds and ends that I had lying around. This is a fun and easy family project!

Dancing into Halloween

One thing my little dancer Katelyn looks forward to is dressing up OFTEN in the week preceding Halloween. At her dance studio they dress up, if they like, the whole week. Since she has several classes during the week, we collect several costumes for her so that she can really play dress up.I have always been a proponent of cheap costumes so when I saw this cute witchy hat with a built in veil for around $4 it was one that went in the cart right away. I paired that with some leggings, a black leotard (always reusable) and a cute witchy tutu and tadah a witch costume on the cheap! Her big sister pictured with her totally enjoyed being her makeup artist in this week too! If you are just beginning to prepare for a Halloween costume I hope these tips came in handy!!!

Scrapping Stamper Sketch by Groovy Deb♥

I like to share with you all the project I create each month for the Scrapping Stamper aka Shannon. First you will see her sketch then my take on it. After you have visited here I hope you will hop over and pay her a visit and see the other designer takes on this beautiful sketch :) This layout shows my daughter in her first Brownie Girl Scout service project. We made homemade chocolate chip cookies with kisses to share with the firefighters in our hometown in honor of their fallen brothers on 9/11 Thanks, Deb♥

Congratulations Kelly!

When our children do well I think parents should  also take a congrats! The children are so filled with an over abundance of work  from  school that when they bring home anything additional parents many times are a big support in helping them, so congrats Kelly! Congrats to your handsome son also!!!
Deb♥

I don't know why but I always seem to have the hardest time with school layouts. I tend to gravitate towards action or everyday photos so I chose this month to scrap about an Award which I knew would be a genuine challenge!

To begin, I grabbed some of my mists for the background. Then I found these photos of my oldest back in 2010 and picked out some of the fun We R Memory Keepers "Hall Pass" papers and Echo Park "A Boy's Life" papers to layer, trimming some into ribbons. I added Some fun Thickers for the title and then a few flags for a subtitle to show our enthusiasm for his award. Time for some journaling and a few glitter photo corners and the challenge was finished! So happy to have this one finished! I hope this inspires you to scrap about an award! :)

Sharing a Thanks

Fall is a beautiful time of year for many things, but have you sent a thank you to anyone recently? This would be a great time of year to warm up another person's day with many of us starting to experience colder weather. Jean is bring a beautiful card today to share and I think it is a wonderful reminder to do a little card making again and go to the post office ;) Deb♥

I wanted to try something new so I grabbed a stamp and my watercolors to complete this Thank you card. I was able to use a variation of colors. It can be challenging to get it so it is not too watery so I suggest practicing first on scrap paper before starting your project. I like the softer effect.

Let's Read!

A few months ago "The Hunger Games" was all the rage where I live. Apparently where Heather lives it had the same affect! What a cool thing to do documenting books that you read. It is a wonderful thought for our All About My Groovy Self albums!!!

Dinner's On!

If you have not the favor of writing down the recipes your family loves, now would be a perfect time to do so! Go one step further as you  see here from Michelle and create a family  recipe book.  Your family will  love you that much more!
Deb♥

Cookbooking is something that really captures family life. Back in NJ, we would get together with my side of family around holidays, birthdays and for Summer BBQs. Since coming to Newfoundland, we get together for "Family Dinner" which can vary from almost every Sunday to once a month. I wanted to capture my turn, "Mexican Themed". This page is the 1st page in a series; back in August you may have seen the next page on If It's Groovy's Junk Drawer Challenge: Titled "Making Guacamole", for my Family Dinner page I used Making Memories Epoxy Alphas & Close to my Heart Atomic Caps/Lower Alpha Stamp Set inked with Barn Red. Cropped all my photos in tight and fussy cut the finished chili picture. I used all the papers from a pad by GCD Studios with the exception of White Cardstock. I used the From the Kitchen Cricut cartridge to make my pot/crockpot shaped journaling menu on the cardstock.

Wendy's Micky Project

I need a vacation! Wendy went on a good one!!! Deb♥ I love incorporating as much as I can into our vacation albums. We always get a photo CD from our Disney trips loaded with family pictures. For my project, I created a quick little pocket from some card stock. I simply scored 3 sides of the paper and folded it up into a pocket and then added a few embellishments. This way, I know where all of our vacation photos are, in case I want to print more.

Groovy Kid Designer Becky...and Bubbles!

Becky's mom IIG Designer Michelle has this to say to preface Becky's project:

Three Summers ago. I took a class on Big Picture Scrapbooking, called "Kidding Around". The class was designed to use the Summer and scrap yourself along with your kids. Back that Summer, Becky and two cousin made the Flat Stanley paper doll. We did do some of the activities along with the class BUT never got to the scrapbook. We were only staying in Newfoundland for 2 months that Summer and returning back to USA.

So, this Summer we pulled out the binder we purchased. Becky made her scrapbook cover to place all of her creations in. To make the hand prints we used acrylic paint. Of course, her little brother wanted in too! He was working on his own paper, BUT wanted to be a "Little Bother!" as Olivia, the cartoon on Nick says. Becky quotes Olivia often...saying "Little Brothers!"

Then next page is where you place Becky's version of a Flat Stanley paper doll when she is not on a adventure. Becky named her Bubbles.

Becky wanted you to know: Currently she is on an adventure, BUT Mom says, "She is digging around in her scrapbook supplies!" Becky started taking her on some planned adventures BUT we are still working on making the scrapbook pages.

Revisiting Masking

If you have not masked recently why not run with it this month? I think you will  love what Rochelle has for us today and inspireyou to go back to it!
Deb♥

Lately, I've really been into altering my base page of my layout by using some type of misting, paint, masking and/or stamping. So for this layout, I wanted to use my Reverse-Chicken Wire template from Crafter's Workshop. I took a Dew Drop ink pad and dabbed it on the template in the top left and bottom right corners of my layout (see close up photos below). I used a sketch from Valerie Salmon for inspiration and My Minds Eye Indie Chic paper collection which was perfect for fussy cutting some flowers to add on my layout. I love the way it all came together!

RIBBON PALOOZA: Michelle

I have been wanting to do a page using hexagons for a while now! Back in January IIG DT Member, Heather posted a sketch that I used for my layout! Thanks Heather for the great sketch! So, "One of the BOYS, now!" page was a fun event that had my husband and I smiling from the second we "try it" until dinner that night! My son needed a bike helmet, his 1st bike helmet mind you. "The Boys" aka his cousin and neighborhood boys are always riding their bikes around our house. My son, Luke is always right behind them! Monkey see monkey do type thing. So, we get out to buy a helmet and as soon as it is clipped on. It never came off! Through the store Luke wore his new helmet. At the cashier counter he would not take it off. Into the truck for the ride home. He sat all proud in his car seat with his helmet. So, I had to get a shot of him in the car seat when we finally got home. Luke was telling me holding up one finger, "One da Boys!" I used papers from a Close to my Heart pack called, Fanfare. Cut out a large Hexagon and smaller ones using the Accent Essentials cartridge on the Cricut. Choose a Ribbon Palooza in coordinating colors. Popped up my photos using Foam tape and added my title with glitter foam alphabets. On the yellow hexagon the white glitter didn't show up as well so I outlined those with a red glitter pen.

RIBBON PALOOZA: Kelly

Oh how I LOVE ribbon! In fact, I'm quite the hoarder when it comes to all types of ribbons, even the trims! I am a huge fan of using ribbon in layouts or on altered items. This challenge was a super fun one for me and a very first about me as a child! I have scrapped so many layouts about my boys, dog, hubby, niece and nephews but not one about my younger years. So, I went digging and found this fun one of me back in 1973 on Christmas morning sitting in my brand new Big Wheel that Santa had brought for me. I couldn't have been happier and I still remember wanting to get outside so badly to ride it! For this layout, I pulled out my Cricut Expression and grabbed a svg file I had saved in SCAL and cut it at 11.5 inches for the loops. Then I dug through some of my doilies and pulled out my Mister Huey's "overdue" mist for the smaller doily. I added some flowers and fussy cut the butterfly giving it's body some bling. I used my banner punch, letter stickers and some tiny orange ribbon to complete the banner. Then it was time to play with ribbon and add to the outside loops. I hope this inspires you to create with ribbon and use up some of your stash too! :) Big Wheel

Always end up with bits and pieces of assorted ribbon? You can easily put them to good use while jumping on the banner/pennant bandwagon. I used scraps of different colors and widths. I even stamped on some of them. Tubing

RIBBON PALOOZA: Heather

Ribbons galore! This is a challenge I should have no problem with right? Considering the massive amounts of ribbon I have hoarded! But to find just the right ribbons that I needed to match this layout did prove to be a challenge. I ended up going to my trusty Basic Gray ribbon that I have loved since I got it what seems like forever ago! But then it did go perfectly since I was using some Basic Gray papers as well! In fact, the only thing on this layout that isn't BG is the bling and the pic! hehe This picture of my youngest sister and my mother and myself was taken at a family Christmas this past year. She has always been an amazing mother to us girls (we have another sister as well). I wanted to focus on the pic of the three of us in this layout, not that it was taken at Christmas. The title I chose was "she gives LOVE". The journaling says "Of all the things she has given us, her love is the best!" My mom rocks and this is just one way of letting her know it! she gives LOVE

RIBBON PALOOZA: Brenda

Hello IIG friends!
I am sharing with you a layout I did for our Ribbon Challenge.   I was really stumped with an idea for using ribbon, as it is one of the items that I do not use much in my scrapping.   I was inspired with an idea on how I would use the ribbon after seeing a sketch by Liz Qualman.

I did not use a lot of ribbon, but I am pleased with the results of my layout.  The good news is that I was able to use the Bo Bunny Double Dot Mint Ribbon that I have had in my stash for quite some time.  For a list of the other items and to see the sketch I used to complete this page, please visit my blog: http://granddivasscrappyplace.blogspot.com/

Thanks for stopping by and I am looking forward to seeing all of your ideas on how to use ribbon.

RIBBON PALOOZA: Rochelle

Oh, I love ribbon... and I've had these Chevron ribbons sitting around for a while! I couldn't wait to put a layout together using these ribbons. My layout was based around the ribbon -- not the photo like it should of been! LOL!! :) I took the ribbon and went through my stash of paper to see what best matched it. I did have summer photos waiting to be scrapped. Once I came across the Little Yellow Bicycle's collection, I knew it was perfect for the ribbon and photo I wanted to scrap. Here's what i came up with. I also included close ups on the ribbon banner pieces and the handmade flower I made using the same Chevron ribbon. Summer FunSummer Fun Close up#2Summer Fun Close up #1

What a great way to use up some bits and pieces of ribbon that I just couldn't bear to throw away! I had all of these fun little pieces and used them to accent the photo mat. And now it's time to buy more ribbon!! Eek!!
