Meet Tammy, Returning Designer

It's been awhile since Tammy has been a design team member here but we are welcoming her back with open arms! I know you will see why ;)
Deb♥

Hello...my name is Tammy. I make my home on the left coast, in Huntington Beach, CA (the O.C. LOL!). I live with my husband of 18 years, Eddie, and my 18 year old daughter Courtney and 15 year old son Hunter. My oldest, Jessica, is 26 and recently married. She lives in Northern California in beautiful Carmel. We also have an old black lab named Jake, a chubby beagle named Abby, and our female calico cat name Pablo. Fortunately we recently gave away our iguana! Unfortunately, our sweet chinchilla, Bob Saget, passed away last Christmas. We are going to stick to normal pets from now on ;)

I don't work outside the home, but help my husband out with our business, and recently opened an Etsy shop. I started scrapping about 10 years ago when my daughter Courtney was involved in musical theatre and was doing about 3 plays a year. The pictures were piling up, so my friend got me to start (I had dabbled in it, but not really getting everything into books). Little did she know what a monster she'd create! I love challenges, especially sketches. And I don't think I have a style...I sometimes will do a certain thing over and over till I get sick of it because I like the look...then I move on :) I bought a Cricut, but don't use it! I do like my Slice, and I love my punches. I also love fussy cutting...it's such an easy way to make embellishments that match your paper :) I also enjoy altered arts and card making.

I also love musical theatre...to watch ;) I have season tickets with a group of girlfriends, and look forward to our nights out, with dinner before. And when I love a show, I will see it often!! I've seen "Rent" more than 6 times, and "Wicked" at least 3. I have too many other favorites to name, but I just love them because the music makes them fun, does that make sense? Other than that, lately my husband and I have been "being tourists in our backyard"...seeing things locally that we either haven't yet, or it's been a long time. It's a fun way for us to spend time together.

Meet Sheena, Our Newest Designer!

Hi fellow scrappers! I am Sheena. I am from California. I am the mom of 2, my daughter, Ashley is 20 yrs old and my son, Devin, is 5 yrs old. I am married to a pretty awesome guy. Ken is very supportive of my hobby and I am thankful for that. I currently work part time as a pharmacy tech, so I get the best of both worlds, part of the day I feel like a SAHM and the other part of the day a working mom and the satisfaction that goes with it.

I starting scrapbooking about 13 years ago but even before I started “officially” I would always put little stickers on my photos telling what it was. I feel this hobby has enriched my life. I really enjoy telling the stories that go with the pictures and tapping into my creativity. In more recent years, I have really made my scrapbooks more of a priority and started playing with more techniques. One year ago I became a Fisk-a-teer and started sharing my work online. That has opened a whole new world to me. I am really enjoying sharing my work and seeing others’ work from all over the globe.
I look forward to being part of this team and creating with you all.

Hurricane Irene :(

If It's Groovy is behind. Yep. No power over here in VA so no way to upload all the goodies that await you :( Hurricane Irene decided my hometown is her landmark, and did she ever make one! Please know that I look forward to getting back to all of you who come by and visit us :)

Hopefully we will have power restored by tomorrow and I will no longer get a few minutes online at Starbucks or the grocery store.

Meanwhile here is a pic of our Starbucks parking lot as we try to enter:

See you soon!

Friday Night Sketch with Heather

Little did Heather know but as Liftateer and Card Lifter at Fiskateers I chose her sketch to be represented in the Lift Off! Online crop being held at Fiskateers this weekend. Come here to see how it was used and give your guesses...

http://www.fiskateers.com/blog/2011/08/23/guess-the-liftateer/

Copy and paste that into your browser and take a guess at who made which layout or card. It is for a Fiskars prize whoopee!

In the meantime here is Heather's fun scetch for you to try also!

Goodbye Darlene

Saying goodbye to Darlene is difficult because she has been here at IIG for so long, but she is a busy mommy going to school, taking care of her little dollbaby, husband and expecting baby numero dos! We will sincerely miss her here at IIG, but wish her much success at anything she chooses :)
Deb♥

It's been quite a groovy journey these last 18+ months on this IIG train but sadly, my time here is coming to a close this month. I have really enjoyed all of the monthly challenges, very wonderful fellow groovy chicks DT, and all the encouraging comments on my works from the IIG followers!

IIG is my first DT position and I have seen my art evolve so much in little time thanks, in part, to all the many innovative challenges set by Groovy Deb! Off the top if my head, my favorite challenges have been the "sandwich" challenge, the "shadows" challenge, and most recently, the fabulous Raisin Boat sponsored projects! How fun were those!?

I've had a great time with IIG and I'll miss this team and the wonderful group of dedicated followers! You can continue to catch up with me on my personal blog, scrappygolucky.blogspot.com in the future to peak on my next works.

Thanks so much for the space and chance to hopefully inspire some of you! See ya'll around the blog world!

xoxo,
Darlene

Goodbye Doreen

We here at IIG are going to miss our good friend Doreen as she steps down from her IIG thrown, but wish her so much success at everything she is working on and the very best of great health!!!
Deb♥

Hi friends,

I have been a DT Member of “If It’s Groovy since November 2010.
“IIG” was my first ever DT and I have enjoyed every moment of it. Not only was it a fun way to get inspired and a way for me to “bust-out” of my comfort zone, but I made some new friends along the way. I am leaving, not because I don’t want to be a part of this Team any longer, but because I want to open up a space to allow another person to join and experience all the fun I have had.

Deborah asked me if I want to leave some parting words for our followers.
Of course I do but it’s been so hard to think of something to write because even though it is my decision to part ways with “If It’s Groovy”, it still makes me sad.

So what to say?
I guess “Thank You” would be the appropriate thing to say.
>“Thank you”, Deborah, for taking a chance on me and allowing me to be part of your group.
> “Thank You”, to my Fellow Team Mates, for inspiring me and making me laugh! Some of you did that on a daily basis (Heather, Darlene!)
> “Thank You”, Followers, for checking in and leaving love on my projects.

And Although I will no longer be a DT member I will still be stopping by from time to time.
Can't wait to meet the new members and see what scrappy goodness they have to share!
Wishing you much love and happiness!
~Doreen~ <3

Ribbon Organization with Silvana

Super idea from Silvana today!
Deb♥

Do you want an easy and super cheap way to organize your ribbons? Well I saw this idea somewhere on the Internet and I thought I would share with you =)
I don't have to much space for my ribbons just a drawer that was getting pretty full and completely chaotic.... so this was an easy solution for me.
With some recycled cardstock from a box of tissues or cereal (rectangular shape 6" x 4 1/2" ) and a Crop-o-dile or a hole puncher you will be able to make this.
Follow the directions in the pic and do as many as you need you can organize by color ( my personal choose) size, kind etc etc .

So what do you think of my before and after =)

Message On My Hand: Heather Round 3 :)

I have been on a weight loss journey! It took me 4 months but I have hit my first goal of 25 lbs lost!!! So . . . what am I doing to lose the weight? I am eating right and I am doing Zumba! I LOVE ZUMBA!! Not only am I sweating and losing weight and getting toned, but I am having a great time doing it and making lots of new friends!!

As you can see, I wrote Zumba on my hand . . . one letter of the word per finger! The shirt I am wearing is from the first 5k that I completed recently. I participated in Race for Grace with a bunch of my Zumba friends. Our instructors were one of the sponsors and their design is on the back of the shirt!

I must admit, I HATE TO RUN! Love to walk but have never liked running! But lately I have started mixing things up a little and have been putting some running in with my walking! I am actually starting to like it more and more! It's so much better with an ipod jamming in my ear while I run. And I love doing it with friends who not only encourage but also push me harder then I would push myself! Push through the pain!!! I even now chase my t-ballers around the bases . . . and can go around several times!

Why though? Why am I doing this? Well, of course, I want to look good! HAHA! But I also want to be able to play with my kids without being winded. I want to be healthy. I want my family to be healthy and I want to be their example!

So, let's not forget to scrap ourselves! Scrap the things you want to achieve. Scrap the things that matter to you. Scrap what's going on in your head.

August 22, 2011

Message On My Hand: Heather Round 2 :)

Well, as I previously said, I loved this challenge! Had so many ideas! I wasn't planning on using this pic . . . I preferred the picture that I used on the "Just Do It" layout because of the attitude.

But then . . . I was at a crop with 30 women on NSBD just creating away. Was telling a fellow scrapper about the challenge and she showed me some paper she had just bought. It had owls on it and was sooooo cute!!! I instantly said "Give a Hoot - Don't Pollute!" I knew instantly that I would be creating a 2nd layout for this challenge! My friend, April, was nice enough to give me these 2 sheets of paper! The owls sitting on the tree limbs and the other was covered in owls. Some of those owls bellies even read "Give A Hoot"! How perfect!!!

It's not often that I get to do a pink lo! In a home with all men, it just does NOT happen! But this was about me and these cute little owls wearing pink shirts and Giving A Hoot about our planet!!!

I used my new We R Memory Keepers Sew Easy tool for the first time on this lo! I love the look of stitching on lo's but I don't have a clue as to how to sew!! This makes it easy and adds just a simple touch! The flowers (inked with Tattered Rose distress ink), bling and leaves are by Prima. The tag was handmade and inked. Give a Hoot was done using Calligraphy Collection cricut cartridge and Don't Pollute were some brown rub-ons with a little extra jute that was laying round. Ta-Da!!! All done!!!

Let's keep our Earth clean! HOOOOOOOO knows how long we have here so we better take care of it while we can!!!!

Be on the lookout, I just might have 1 more On the Hand challenge layout for you!! Isn't sharing our message a fun thing to do??? Share yours with us!!!

Message On My Hand: Heather

When Groovy Deb presented the "On the Hand" challenge, I loved it from the get go!! The ideas in my head just went CRAZY!!!! As you will see, I liked it so much that I decided to do a couple of different layouts to share with you this month!!

"Just Do It" came about by my best friend Clara. She was visiting me in Indiana from Texas for NSBD! I wanted to get the pictures taken so I could take them to a crop we were going to! I had the idea of "Save the Earth" from my blingy Elmo t-shirt . . . hard to see but there are little rhinestones on the shirt around the earth! We have recently started being more cautious about things we can do to help out the earth, such as recycling. My whole family is getting into it!

So, when Clara got ready to take the pic, I told her I wanted one with a little 'tude!!! (Attitude that is!) Clara came up with the title! I just happened to have the tree kraft paper from Scenic Route, and I knew it would be perfect for the natural feeling I was wanting for the layout! Then I used some Basic Grey patterned papers to help pull it together! Fell in love with the outcome!

Hope this layout not only inspires you to participate in our "On the Hand" challenge this month, but also to get you thinking about ways you can help SAVE OUR EARTH! ~Heather

Message On My Hand: Darlene

This months If It’s Groovy challenge is to make a layout featuring a photo of your hands with a message on it. I figured this would be a good a time as ever to write a bit about my hands and how they have always been one of the things I am self conscious about—they’re so wrinkly and “old” looking, and they have been for as long as I can remember. So here I wrote a bit about my feelings in regards to my too lined hands, and figured if my children inherit this wrinkly hand gene, its totally OK, because my grandmother has always had her hands this way too, and I think of the unlikely way we are very alike. :)

I took some pictures of the front and back of my hands, made the images black and white, and used random fonts that I have downloaded to write onto my photo before I printed it off the computer. I think I liked this photo-title idea. I should do this more often. :)

I used a bunch of mixed Basic Grey collection pack paper and embellishments throughout, as well as, some scraps of a We R Memory Keepers embossible designs (Vintage Blue), and some DCWV Hippie Chic epoxy stickers for the flowers.

Won’t you give this “On the Hand” challenge a go? We would love to see what you come up with.

Message On My Hand: Michelle

When I first read this challenge I started thinking about what I wanted to say on my hand. I knew I wanted to used both my hands. So, I mentioned to my husband I would need his help in taking the pictures. Since he is not the best picture taker and he mentioned if I hear the song, Daddy's Hands. I checked out the lyrics and he became part of the page!

I used Cloud 9 Design - Luster Rustin Piece double-sided Cardstock. Printed out the lyrics Daddy's Hands by Holly Dunn and my journaling on Granite Multi-purpose paper. Torn the edges and inked them with Grey Flannel Ink from Close To My Heart. Used textured black cardstock as my photo mats edge distressed them to show the white core. Took the Burlap Rope made Hitch knots and attached them. For my title I had 3 sheets of leftover Creative Memories letters in black that I sanded down a bit with a nail file, for a rustic look.

Message On My Hand: Jen T

My message on my hand is “live well, laugh often, and love much”.(That has been my favorite saying for years!- I even have this saying on the hallway wall in my house) Words I try to live by- hence, my title :) I had a ton of fun doing this page and taking the pic of myself and my hand...though my baby girl looked at me like I was crazy as I laughed the whole time trying to get a pic of myself for this page. O.K. I had a lot of fun! And so, I then pulled out these cool brown and tan papers I had and used a sepia tone on my pics to unify my page. Tfl!

Message On My Hand: Silvana

Since the day I read about this challenge I loved the idea ...... I had lots of ideas of what my layout would look like...and all include pics of my kids and as you can see I didn't use that idea ...first because it was nearly impossible =) seriously try writing something in the hand of a 18 month girl ...and them try taking a pic of her and her brother with their hands open so you can read the words...like I say impossible LOL. Instead the other day I brought them to the park near home and I also brought a Sharpie marker just in case =) and I wrote in my hands "I love scrap" asked my almost 5 year old son to take a pic and what do you know it worked ........I not only love this layout because it has a pic that my son took, but it says a lot about me and who I am and what I like. I wanted to use this beautiful paper (thanks Darlene for the it), but I didn't want to cover the design so this is what I did : used the paper as a frame and accented the butterflies and flowers with some bling.

Hope you girls enjoy this layout =)

Time for our new challenge!!!

As list mom here at If It's Groovy I try to constantly strive to come up with interesting challenges for the Groovy Chicks and all of you who choose to play along with us. Since I have been scrapbooking for such a long time I also like and need the challenge to myself. I am so excited about the challenge this month as it gives us a chance to share with all of you and those looking at our scrapbooks something important from our hearts. For me I chose to work on a Faithbooking page because I want to make sure my scrapbooks reflect that my faith is of utmost importance to me. I chose to write Romans 10:9 as it sums up exactly what the Bible has written for all of us to know exactly how we can one day go home to Heaven :)Here is what I came up with :) TFL! Come out and play with us. You have until August 31 to email me at groovydeb@yahoo.com with your entry. A prize? Of course!!!

If You Would Like to Have a Baby...

I have just the right answer...join If It's Groovy design team!!! We have had so many of our designers become pregnant so there is something about being on this team :)

Congrats to Darlene and family :)
Deb♥

I've had this "baby fever" as I've wanted another baby for so long, but the timing was never right before this year. My husband and I decided we could start "trying" and 4 months later, we made a new baby! :) I am over the moon about this news and I have yet to share with anyone publicly until just very recently (even though I've known since week 4 about this pregnancy-- yes it has been so tempting to just spill the beans already!).

I wanted to find a neat way to tell our parents that they would be grandparents, again(!), so I decided to take a photo of my pregnancy test, write up a little poem, and make a few copies of a greeting card to send out as our announcements. This was so fun for me and I just knew this would have to get scrapbooked in my albums as well. So here is installment one of my second baby album. Maybe I'll do just a few layouts about the developing bump every trimester or so (since I take belly photos every week)? :)

Thanks for looking! :)

Paint!

If you have not used Acrylic paint for awhile why not break it out of hiding and put it to use again? It is so much fun to use and it gives a look that you cannot get from stamp pads. Let's see what Darlene has made with hers and a few Raisin Boat stamps and a robot stamp also from her stamp stash:)
Deb♥

This brick background was made with the ultra fabulous Brick Raisin Boat stamp and some mixed acrylic paint (so the paint would dry thick and extra textured). I also combined this card with the Get In Gear set, which made my gears look fabulous!

Summer Don't Go!

Are you like me? If so then you may be looking at the Summer sun moving faster over the trees each day and that means Summer will leave sooner than later. Oh how I wish it lasted longer. I need to live where I can count on the smell of Chlorine every day, the sound of crashing waves, and of course the beautiful sunshine. I can never get enough!

This is one of the times where my husband was enjoying Summer while our family enjoyed a beach vacation. I love that we have scrapbooks to show us doing the things we love. When it is a cold and rainy Winter day I can pull out the travel books and enjoy the sun once again :)

Heather's Favorites

I am pretty sure most of us can relate to this! Read on!
Deb♥

Somebody once told me to pick my favorite tool for scrapbooking. What? How? I can't do that!!! I have so much more then one!! I love my distress inks, I love my ATG, my trimmer is a MUST!!! Is my ipod a tool? I have to be listening to music when I am scrapping!

So, I failed! I can NOT just pick one thing that is my favorite. My answer would have to be EVERYTHING! It's the use of many tools and many scrappy supplies that makes being a scrapbooker so much fun!!!

Really? Seriously? Groovy!

Michelle has made a really fun lo that I love, if I do say so myself, but I am biased!!!

I wanted to make a page for myself, especially since I don't do that very often. I found this great overlay by Fancy Pants called "70's" which fits perfect for If It's Groovy(IIG). For my journaling I put the snip-its of the journey to the IIG Design Team. It started with an e-mail from my Scrappy Friend, Jen T. And after some back and forth with Deb. I was announced on IIG Blog on March 21, 2011. Later we found out that we were apart of a few of the same online scrapping sites just never crossed paths yet!
I started this page by using the same picture I have on IIG enlarged it and placed in on my base page, which was taken from a Marcella by K Paper Pad called "Bungalow." I also cut a strip of one of the patterned strips and added that under and across the base page. I also used that same patterned stripe for my journaling. Next, I lined up the overlay and got placement for the VW Bus Rub-on from Cosmo Cricket's "Get Happy" added that to the base page. I took the overlay and added to the top the Groovy Badge from Sticko "Hip Chick" and my words to complete my title "It Is" from American Crafts Thickers in "Meadow" Finally added the Peace symbol from Raisinboat stamps with Black Staz-on ink. Attached the overlay to the base page using mini Glue Dots placed in hidden areas.

Recycle with Jen

O.k., so for any of you that know me personally...I am all about recycling! I try to even repurpose things so that they don’t have to go into the recycle bin :) sometimes this makes my dh a little crazy! Like just the other day..I had a cool jar from pasta sauce and my husband says to me....”no just put it in the recycle bin “- he knew my wheels were turning cause I was trying to figure out what I could reuse it for...lol! And so now that I am done yapping..I gave this tissue box new life by turning it into a photo cube with pics of my family.tfl!

Happy Birthday Groovy Kristen!

Are you having Deja Vu? Nope! My youngest daughter had a birthday on Wednesday and now my older daughter has her birthday today! I spaced them out by almost 9 years to the day. Unusual isn't it?

Since Kristen is in Florida on a vacation with a previous teacher of hers, I had to go over and steal something from her Facebook to show what she was up to today. The things we parents have to do!

Happy birthday Kristen, love you, Mom♥

How she described her day:

August 5th
(^First of all... Let it be known the picture is a joke... I actually can't stand Justin Bieber.)
-MY 16TH BIRTHDAY!!!
-Went to Dillard's and JCPenney's.
-Went to Olive Garden and they brought me a Birthday cake!

Layouts about ourselves are hard.

I know from experience that it's hard to find things about myself that I think would be interesting... But the truth of the matter is even the simpliest things about ourselves may be interesting to others. And in the future, where hopefully our layouts will still exist, they can be comical; think at how we laugh now at our pics from back in the 80s or 90s!!

That's why even though it may be difficult I try to scrap about myself from time to time. And, for those that are camera shy, the cool thing about scrapping about ourselves is we don't always have to use our pics in the layouts. If your scrapping about a hobby or a fav all you need is a pic of that subject.

My layout is a perfect example!

I love music! So much so that I wanted to scrap about my fav cds at the moment since, as you know, over time favs like this will change. Instead of scrapping a pic of me, I used pics of the cd covers on my layout. And luckily, since I had already thrown one of the covers away, I was able to find it on the internet...Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE the internet!

So here I present to you my "Fav CDs - Summer 2011"

BTW just so you can see a different variation of the same idea, I have included another layout, one I created back in the Summer of 2010; this one has no pics.

Hope this encourages you to scrap more about yourself!

Family Ties

How much do we as scrapbookers love when we have a great photo of our elders as young children? If you are like me, then those would be a very rare fine. Darlene has one for us today and it is so cute. Her layout is beautiful and perfect for sharing a heritage page :)
