Introducing New DT Member, Lindsey!

I am so excited  to be  bringing a new face  to our team! I know you will love her work and that she will be a great fit to  the groovy team :) Please help me to  welcome Lindsey! She has provided a bio for us and is also showing her take on the Hand-Cut Challenge :)

Hi Groovy Gals! My name is Lindsey and I've been scrapbooking for a long, long time! I started a book when I got engaged in 1999 as a planner. I then started books for my wedding and my nephews, and when my first was born, I searched Scrapbook.com. It was all over after that! I began in Yahoo groups, I continued to Forums, and I landed at ScrapStreet.com. I've been taking a bit of a scrapbooking break, thinking I needed to reinvent myself, but found out that scrapbooking for yourself can actually be done! I haven't bought new supplies in almost 2 years now, so I am working purely on stash and memories. It can be done!

I've been married to my husband since 2000, Matthew was born in 2003, and McKenna was born in 2006. We also always have boxers (the dogs!); we have Mia who just turned 4 and Milo who will be 2 next month.

Jump! by Lindsey Krauss. Supplies: Paper: Bella Blvd., Xerox, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics, Sticker: Bella Blvd., Pearls: Kaiser Crafts, Mist: Tattered Angels (Tsukineko), Paint: Making Memories,  Other: leaf vellum, brown ribbons, heart button, raffia. Font: Brody.

Design note: To create this hand-cut title, I printed out a picture with leaves large enough to fit in the space I planned on my page. I then found a nice, bubble font and printed that out a few times in black on another sheet of paper. I stapled the font to the leafy picture in its white space and cut the title with a craft blade. I simply cut around the black font, about 1/8" out. I laid the picture-title on the white paper-title (I like the ink behind the title because it covers some little fussy-cutting imperfections.) Although as you can see, I think imperfect layouts are pretty perfect, too (RUSTIC, we call it!) :)

I have never thought about using my own handwriting and cutting it out for a title!  That is what the cricut or Thickers are for . . . right?  Well, I have totally changed my opinion about that since Groovy Deb gave us this challenge.  I really felt that my title really added to the layout this time, that it wasn't just there.  So, thank you Deb for making me try something new and loving the way it turned out!

I have never used FarmHouse paper company before.  Just bought it recently specifically for some fall layouts and I absolutely LOVE it!  I used the Sugar Hill paper pack for these pics of our son Payton.  We had spent a great fall day at Conner Prairie and I loved these pics of him in his hat that my sister made for him.

I thought it would be fun to have my daughter hand write her own name.  I fussy cut out her writing and added it to a school picture.  I wish I had thought of this earlier.  It would be great to see how her handwriting changes over the years.   :)

Don't have the right color Thickers? Not enough e's? I have the perfect solution. Hand print your title and then cut it out which is exactly what I did here.  One handy trick -- don't cut over the garbage pail:). If you lose your grip, that letter might get lost. One more page down for this Christmas present I am making!

Brenda here sharing my take on this month's Hand Cut Words Challenge.   Well, Groovy Deb through a curve ball at me with this challenge!   LOL  Nowadays I can only write one or two words at a time without my writing taking a twist or turn.  I have to say I struggled with this challenge because I like things nice, even and straight, so I had to come up with just ONE WORD to cut out.  I practice on various words and names until I was able to get it just "WRITE" :)! 

I really wanted hand cut my title but the bigger I printed the harder it was to keep straight, so I settled for just adding my great-nephews name to my embellishment cluster.  So for all of you who are afraid or not sure how you will like what you come up with for this challenge....start small and go from there. 

The IIG DT members have done and awesome job with this challenge and would love to see what you come up with!

Hand-Cut Words: Rochelle

I love to fussy cut.... but to hand write my OWN words was a challenge for me! LOL  I really don't like my handwriting so I went very short of my words! lol  This is "Ms. Jaylah," my baby girl.  Jaylah is 6 years old and was born to pose for the camera! LOL  She is always ready to take a photo and is usually posing in every photo.  This is just one of many shots that I have of her.

I used Websters Pages for this layout.  I hand wrote the title with a Copic Marker.  Other supplies used: Martha Stewart punches, Queen and Co. twine, Recollections washi tape, and a doily that is slightly misted.

One thing I have overcome with my scrapbooking is to use my own handwriting on my pages. I used to use computer printed journal when I first started, then die-cut letters, alpha stickers and stamps. Somewhere along the line I heard the words..."capture you on the page" I find that this is especially important when it is my own children's scrapbook pages. I savor those handwritten recipes, envelopes and cards that I do have from family members who are not longer with me.

For this page title, I used a trick I picked up from Deb. Deb used this technique back on a Online Crop over at Fiskateers, it was one of her Simon Says Games. Here is the trick: Turn your paper over and either write your word in cursive backwards then cut out or you can print your words on the write side up paper and cut them out!

I inked up the edges of the word "Dad's" with Red ink to add depth. Using a Glitter Gel Pen I traced the edges of each letter in the word "helper". This was a fun, simple design...But those pics and title have impact!
I used photos that I have be playing with for a long time. Nothing never seemed to go for me. Once I pulled out the Primary colors from scraps I was working with and grouped my photo collage style I got it! This are pictures of my daughter outside helping my husband put in our stone front walkway, back in NJ.

I love the idea of your very own handwriting on layouts, however I did find this a good challenge for me since I have never created a title with my own handwriting. I first practiced on some scratch paper and then chose some textured cardstock which I wrote on the smooth side. I thought it might be fun to change up the colors too. I then grabbed my papers and came across a patterned paper with hearts that I fussy cut to use as embellishments. Lastly I added some twine and flags with a handwritten date. I hope this inspires you to create something crafty with your very own handwriting! :)

Hand-Cut Words Challenge:Groovy Deb♥

It's the start of a new month so I have challenged The Groovy Chicks to create layouts this month that have hand cut words. It is so easy to go and buy our favorite alphabet letters to use, or maybe cut them out on a Cricut, but I thought it would be fun to see hand writing in action across the pages! If you want to give this challenge a try just write a word or more if you are brave and cut it out to apply to your page. Here is mine:

I was "Looking Back" when journaling this layout so using "Back" was my choice of a hand-cut word. Give this a try, it is fun  to embrace your own handwriting, promise!
