A Wonderful Advent Project

Christmas is almost here but it is never too early to work on an Advent Project for next yer. Here is one made by Wendy that looks like one we could really enjoy!

I started making advent calendars for my kids 2 years ago using Karen Foster's boxes.  These are so fun and easy to make!  They each have 25 little drawers that I fill with little chocolates or toys for the kids.  This year, I am also putting little notes in some of the drawers with places we can go.  The drawers are too small to put gift cards or tickets into, so I am writing little promise notes to them....or maybe just a hint using a scrapbook sticker...hmm....
I used some different colors and patterns of scrapbook papers and miscellaneous stickers for the face of each drawer.  The set comes with the number stickers.  And the top was my favorite part!  This was just a little decoration I found at the dollar store that i just attached using some glue dots!

Bath Time at Heather's!

With a house full of boys I  bet Heather's bathroom is never free! Can you image them as teenagers?Prepare yourself Heather!!!

We just redone our bathroom!  It has been decorated with Mickey Mouse since we moved in over 7 years ago.  We left what the former owners had done.  But I was ready to move on.  So we tore out the MM border and painted the lower half of the wall teal with chocolate brown trim around doors and floorboards.  Added a chocolate brown chair rail and then put up some new decor.

However, in the process, I was trying to save some money!  So, I took some shoebox lids from my boys' new boots.  I covered it with scrapbook paper that matched.  I then cut the word "Bath" on my Cricut and adhered it to the bottom corner.  Set on a shelf in the corner of my half bath!

Could have bought a canvas and done the same thing, but why do that? I have shoebox lids that work the same way and costs nothing!  Hope this gives you an idea of how to recycle something that would normally end up in the trash!

For you I have made a Halloween wreath where I have used my Seal of Approval Squeeze Punch. I adore the squeeze  punches because they are so easy to use that even if you have Arthritis you will find them easily operated :) Sorry about the glare on picture 3 but because of the lights I cannot get a better one :/

I had this 8x10 piece of backed canvas in my scrappy room for awhile. Never was real sure what I was going to do with it! I thought about painting on it. No, maybe not. You see, besides scrapbooking, I don't feel like I am a very crafty person - especially when it comes to painting or drawing.

One day I seen an idea similar to this on a website. I knew right then what I was going to use that canvas for. I not only knew what I was going to use it for, but I also knew that I was going to use it as a birthday gift for a sweet friend of mine - who also happens to be our Praise Team leader at church. I knew it had to be something good because she IS crafty! In fact, she is an art teacher! What have I gotten myself into????

I picked papers that I knew would match her living room. I wanted to keep with a music theme so I included the music circles also. All the circles were punched out using a Creative Memories punch. I then lined up the circles and adhered them to the canvas, leaving room for my stamped saying. On top of some of the circles, I then added a few embellies for some dimension. I stamped the "Then Sings My Soul" with the hearts. I then took some Distress Stain around the edges of the canvas. (If you like distress ink, you will love the distress stains also!)

I had a frame all picked out for this. However, when I put the canvas in it, it wasn't right. I then remembered some old frames that I had that were beaten up. I had planned to alter them. But once I put the canvas art inside, I decided not to do anything with the frame. I like how it looked kinda rustic/distressed next to the canvas.

Don't be afraid to try new things! It's amazing what you might find in your house that you can use . . . and still using your scrapbooking supplies!!!

By the way, she LOVED it! Took it home and put it on top of her piano!!!

I read an article somewhere about color properties, relating to how you can use the color meaning in your scrapbooking. Well, I thought it would be great to research the color properties of the main colors ROYGBIV and see how they apply to each one of my children. Lo and behold, I have 7 children, the perfect number to ROYGBIV them. So, now on my mantel, the kids are in ROYGBIV order instead of age. This bothers the children who are my LEFT BRAINED thinkers. but my RIGHT BRAIN thinkers, totally get it! So here is the MANTEL PROJECT, in R-O-Y-G-B-I-V order!!!"

This took the ordinary out of scrapping a 12x12 and became a home dec project for my wall :)
