Orange Blog Hop

Welcome to the Third Annual Fiskateers ORANGE Blog Hop!  If you're hopping along, you should have come from Cindy's.  (If you are joining us in the middle, go to www.fiskateers.com to start from the beginning.)

Today we are celebrating Fiskars' signature color, ORANGE.  Almost everyone is familiar with Fiskars' famous orange-handled scissors, but Fiskars makes so many other wonderful products for crafting, sewing, gardening, and more.  Each stop along our Hop will feature different Fiskars' products with a big helping of ORANGE!

For you I have made a Halloween wreath where I have used my Seal of Approval Squeeze Punch. I adore the squeeze  punches because they are so easy to use that even if you have Arthritis you will find them easily operated :) Sorry about the glare on picture 3 but because of the lights I cannot get a better one :/

Here is a picture of the punch I used today:

For more information about Fiskars and the Fiskateer program, you can go to http://www.fiskateers.com/join/.   Now, hop along to the next stop!  You will be visiting:

Jennifer Ashley

Thanks for coming by! Leave a message saying you've been by please :)

Spring Blog Hop!!!

Welcome to the Fiskateers Spring Blog Hop. You should have arrived today from the blog of my Fiskateer sister, Tracie 8436 http://www.tinymightstales.blogspot.com :)

If not and you just stopped by then be sure to hop on over to out start here:
http://www.fiskateers.com/blog/

For those who are wondering what is a Fiskateer then let me encourage you to see for yourself by looking into what I feel is the most special online community on the web. Those of us who are gathered there do so first and foremost based on our love of Fiskars Products. It is there where you will find inspiration in many areas such as paper crafting, sewing, gardening, and so much more not the least of making some of the best friends across the planet!!! Check in with one of our current leads who will be expecting you by clicking http://www.fiskateers.com/join/. They will tell you what you need to know to become a Fiskateer too!

We’ll be hopping all weekend , March 24th and 25th to welcome Spring! I LOVE SPRING!!! Our official closing time is 11pm CST. P.S. Be on the lookout for prizes, but please be sure to follow instructions carefully :)

You may also go over to former Groovy Chick Kelly's Blog for a complete list of all of the Fiskateer bloggers :) and you can also continue on the hop by checking out my Card Lifter Fiskasister Pam's blog next!

OK, let me show you the Fiskars product I decided to use for my project!!! This is called Framed in Love and it is a Border and Corner Punch. It is so easy to use and I created an Easter Basket decoration using just the border side of this one. Thanks for coming by and seeing what my new favorite punch, several sheets of paper, a little bunny, candy, plastic eggs and tons of glue sticks can do and have a very Happy Spring!!!

One Day Birthday Blog Hop!

Happy Birthday to If It's Groovy! Yeah it is our 3rd year!!! It is so hard to believe that we have been an active blog this long so THANK YOU for supporting us. We have a little blog hop to celebrate today and we hope you will enjoy as you make your way through each of The Groovy Chick's blogs showing projects made using the letters out of the word Birthday.

I have "B" and decided to make a birdhouse :)

I used papers from Paper Studio, Making Memories "Shopping Bag" acrylic paint, store brands of other colors, and together decorated this little home. I cut the pieces of paper first using a Fiskars Coastal Knife, which I love with it's ergonomical design, then attached them to the birdhouse with Aleene's tacky glue. Before attaching I did mix the paint into the glue so I managed to decorate at the same time as affixing :) I then just finished it off with some embellies, twigs and a bird cut from the same pad of paper used to design the house. To keep the bird from bending too fast I added lots of layers of the same glue to help harden up the paper.

TFL! Now it is time to go by and visit Michelle with her letter"I"

p.s. I am sending a little goodie bag to one person who leaves some luv at all of the blogs on this hop. Not to fret there are 7 ")

Let's Hop Girlfriends!

WELCOME to the Calendar Blog Hop! I am number 14 on the stops so if you just cruised by today be sure to look at the following list for #1 and start leaving comments at each blog for your chance at a Cricut Cartridge, Designer's Calendar! Every blogger will have completed a calendar page aiming to inspire you to create your own for 2011! Someone will receive the Cricut cartridge simply by becoming a follower on the blogs and leaving a comment for each. Easy right! Let us know how we have done :)

P.S. Karel at the Flamingo blog (stop #4) will be choosing the winner after collecting comments so please leave your email address kinda like this groovydebatyahoodotcom on your comments to make life easier for her when searching out the winner. This way we can keep robots from stealing our groovy data too!

p.p.s. There is still time to complete the Dictionary Challenge for this month here on IIG for a prize too! Complete a lo using a word of the day or just open a dictionary and use the word you point to. It's fun so we hope you have fun! We Luv Ya and appreciate you coming over to play in all of the challenges we participate in as well as our own on IIG!!!

Now Let me tell you a little about my calendar. We were asked to make two pagers, leaving room for photos. I decided to cut holes in my barn door and inset tags which will hold my pics. I Stickled every apple I found to add some glitz to the paper.

We were also asked to include holidays. Since I signed up for September there are a few that stick out in my mind: My friend and sorority sister's birthday one week before my own, 9/11 to honor the fallen here in America, and World Peace Day on September 21. I added each of those and carried the embellishment of Stickles to the calendar too by using some on the important dates, Stamp Pressed my acrylic peace sign after I let me numbers dry, then covered a few weekends in September with Fall stickers to remind me it is pumpkin time in my part of the SE so I will get pumpkins BEFORE October!!! No plans on those weekends now other than that!

I am showing the few steps it took to make mine. If you envision the bottom two side by side that's how I am actually keeping them in my album as you may see in the little pic clip below :)

Thanks for coming, enjoy the hop and don't forget to spread the luv and follow for your chance at the cartridge. If you don't have a Cricut I bet you know someone who does who would love that sweet gift next Christmas. Come on and play along!

Land of the Free, Because of the Brave- An Interview

Hey Everyone! Happy Veterans Day! I asked Lead Fiskateer Cheryl from Fiskars to have a chat with me. Although Cheryl represents Fiskars and the Fiskateers with their colors of orange and green, when I first online met her I knew she also had a passion for three other colors: Red White and Blue.; I know you will love her as much as I do when you read what she shares today in this interview :) Thanks to all of you for stopping by and now I bring you Cheryl...

Hi Cheryl, Thank You so much for agreeing to be my inspiration for the Land of the Free, Because of the Brave Blog Hop. Since I first met you there was one thing extremely apparent to me, one, that in your position as Lead Fiskateer that You are the "heart" of a wonderful community that stretches across our nation and many others. Secondly, You have a sense of American Pride that I find extremely endearing. I love this country and am so proud to be a citizen and I know you do too!

Hi Deb. First, I want to say thank you for the encouraging and loving words. I do love this country and the principles it was founded upon. I'm grateful I live here and can first hand (having lived overseas for six years) tell you that it is a wonderful and beautiful land!

Thank you!

Nation. To me that word means so much and I am absolutely honored when I see the Red, White and Blue American flags flying. Will you tell me what is is like for you?

I love seeing flags flying and patriotism displayed in a proud manner. The 'Grand Ol' Flag' has endured many a things and it's symbols of fifty states united, democracy and freedom stand tall. One thing that saddens me is when you see people in this land disgrace the flag. Our armed services have sacrificed for the symbol of 'Old Glory' and the freedoms the flag stands for! Long may she wave!

Have you or your family members served in our military? What branches?

My grandfather and several great uncles served in the Army, I have a brother in law that served almost thirty years in the Navy, my dad served in the Vietnam War in the Navy as well and my husband served as a Marine in Operation Desert Storm and Shield. I have several dear friends who also serve in different branches in the services. I'm so grateful that all of my family returned from their duties overseas. I'll never forget welcoming my husband home from the Persian Gulf. A memory of yellow, red, white and blue, tears, love, and pride engraved in my mind. We even had a military wedding . . .

How did having family serving affect you and how you feel about being an American?

I grew up appreciating the sacrifice that those who serve in the armed forces provide for us as Americans. I also grew up with a respect of those that serve and the principles they serve for . . . this country, freedom, and more. I'm assuming that may be why I married my husband (partially).

I grew up in an area where there were two large Marine Corps bases (El Toro and Tustin) and the town was buzzing with young men and women who serve our country. Jet fighters would fly over our home and it reminded me of feeling protected. They have since been closed but it was such a big part of our history here in Southern California.
Again, I'm grateful for being an American . . . first hand I've seen what an impoverished country is like and experienced lack of freedom. While America today has some issues . . . I am grateful for freedom and the people in our nation from the farmer or cowboy to the NY business man or Amish family member.

In our hobby of crafting we preserve so much of our personal history with day-to-day activities, have you spent time also scrapbooking travels in your role as a Military Supportive Wife and friend? If so, what type of emotion was evoked by scrapbooking at times such as those as personal as being in places far from your loved ones? Did your crafting hobby help to subside during those times or allow for you to meet others sharing in this hobby?

When my husband was away in the Persian Gulf I didn't scrapbook however I have preserved memories of this time and my father's service in the Vietnam war since. I want my daughter to share in the pride and joy (although frightening at times) experienced when a loved one serves his/her country. I work in public service/law enforcement and still have the opportunity to serve our country and community and that also gives me a since of joy. I have also scrapped many of these memories and even shared my skills in scrapbooking to help fund raise for the military, our troops overseas and the community.

On Veterans Day as we honor those who have served in our military is there someone special that you would want to talk with us about? Pictures?

I'd love to share one of my favorite pictures with you of my dad and his best friend on a beach which was bombed days later. To this day they are still the best of friends. It's amazing the bond of serving together (especially in war) creates. My father had two daughters and so did Terry . . . both families (united by war basically) are close and have enjoyed sharing one in another's lives. I think this is the only photo we have of them in Vietnam and one we cherish!

Do you have special ceremonies, parades, celebrations that you participate in on Veterans Day?

Each year at my daughters school they hold a Veterans Day parade. They ask relatives that have served in the armed services to join their school age family members and walk in the parade. It gives teachers, parents, spouses and other family members the opportunity to recognize these men and women for their sacrifice and service! It's a fun parade!
We also enjoy our annual Fourth of July parade here in Lake Forest. We've been attending for at least twenty years and enjoy all the patriotic festivities surrounding this event. It's a favorite every year and another opportunity to recognize those that have served past and present for our country. Our family also loves all things American . . . hot dogs, baseball and Apple pie :)

Thank you for taking time with me today. Many wishes for a Happy Veterans Day and Thank You for all that you do to be a concerned, loving, caring and giving citizen who truly shines with love of her country and what she stands for, Land of the Free, Because of the Brave.

From sea to shining sea, as citizens I am hoping you'll thank that man or woman who serves or has served our country. God bless America!

One last thing from Cheryl and that is a quote she loves by our 16th president...

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.
Abraham Lincoln

A Few More Hours...

...and we will have us a full fledged crop happening here and 19 other blogs so come on back at Midnight!

Thanks to all of our Service Men and Women as well as their families for all of the sacrifices you make so that we Americans can endure our freedom! I hope our blog hopping shows you ALL how much we ♥ YOU!
