Meet our New Vintage Designer with her Project :)

I am so pleased to introduce everyone to our new Vintage Designer, Jodi!
Here is some info about her.

HI!! I'm Jodi. I'm 36 years old and live in a small town in Ohio. I have been married to my highschool sweetheart for 17 years. We have an 11 year old son who is in the 5th grade.

I work full time as a billing manager for an ophthalmologist. I have been there for 13 years. I love my job (most days). I also work hard for autism awareness. My son is autistic and was diagnosed at age 2. Believe it or not I DO have time for scrapbooking.

I started scrapbooking about 2 years ago. I made a scrapbook for my niece for her college graduation. I was HOOKED!!!!! I took a break for almost a year and just started back up this last year.

This is my first DT. I hope you all will be gentle and patient with me. LOL I am a Vintage NUT. I would rather do Vintage scrapbooking more than anything. I love to distress, distress and DISTRESS. I love to make things look old. My inks are my prized posession and I literally would die without them. I love to try new techniques and the funkier the better. I also like doing grunge LO and messier the better too!!!!

I can't wait to get to know all of you!!!

You can visit me on my blog at: http://twinkletwinklestarr.blogspot.com

I challenged her to create a lo with the theme of tattered and torn. She created this lovely layout of her MIL's parents on their wedding day. What awonderful gift!

Checking in with our Groovy Green Goddess on Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day Everyone! I thought today would be the perfect day to check in with our Groovy Green Goddess, Christina! She has written some information for us to read that I think coming from this pharmacist would be of very useful information to all of us. That you Christina!

As the winter months continue, my family and I tend to get out of the cold and stay indoors. The more time I spend indoors means the more time I have to find things to keep me occupied inside which ultimately leads to "winter cleaning". I was going through the medicine cabinet the other day and discarding old medications. The "old way" was to flush expired or unwanted medication down the toilet or wash it down the sink, however significant traces of drugs are showing up in rivers, lakes and some water treatment centers. These traces could affect fish and other wildlife and potentially exacerbate the ongoing problem of antibiotic resistance. The best way to discard "unwanted" medication is to mix it in something unpalatable before disposing of it in the trash. Examples would be cat litter, coffee grounds, old leftovers from the fridge, or anything that would prevent someone from digging it back out of the trash. Also, by sending it to a landfill, the medication is able to break down and lose potency before reaching water sources. Any patches applied to the skin should be folded in half (sticky on top of sticky) so that children and pets cannot get the medication on their skin if digging in the trash. Destroy the prescription label and if you can get the label off the bottle then recycle it otherwise discard it. area hospitals or local clincs may have programs where they takein unwanted medication for proper disposal. Some states have hazardous waste facilities that can dispose of prescription medications. Choose whichever way works best for you and be sure to spread the word..."no more flushing"!

Word of the year, Where are You with yours?

This year I chose my word of the year that I felt needed to be incorporated into my life a lot. My word? Simplify. This year started out with lots of crazy, while I am thinking about it 2009 ended with lots of crazy, but that's another story. So I thought out my word and set out to make it happen. I gave up my scrapbook room to one of my children as her room and started the process of moving all scrappy things to my closet and my bedroom so it is even closer and I can watch TV at the same time. See doing more than one thing at a time:simplifying. That did not work for me so I took a place in the living room, HATED IT! Back to my room again with a newer plan, HATE IT! Now I have scrap stuff in my old studio, my living room, and my bedroom. What's a girl to do?

I have a new plan that's it!

I am going to switch rooms again this time I am going to shift the girls and take over my master bedroom that I have been letting my teenager use. Come back to Momma! Whoohoo!

Are you sticking to your word?

Seeing in Black and White?

This month our Dollbabies team was challenged by their team leader to create black and white layouts. I took the challenge with them and found myself unable to go without some color. I just could not do it! Let me show their layouts and mine too. What do you think can you do an all girl lo using no color??? Darlene found herself in the same situation just adding a little hint of color. Just goes to show how hard it is to be neutral doesn't it? If you find yourself able to create a lo with this criteria let us see by coming here:

Look for the "April Challenge".

Zentangles!!!

How many of you are familiar with the term "zentangle"? It is a form of doodling whereas you create art and use the power of zen at the same time! How cool is that? On this example I created huge flowers by drawing them with my marker and then created little patterns inside each leaf~all unique in design. Wanna give it a try? Show me! Come over to the NING board
and upload yours and I will send one winner a free marker and some other yummies like I used as a little gift!

Latest Repurposing Project-~Let's Go Shopping!

From Kathy:

Investigative Reporter Carr checking in! My assignment this month was to scope out an office supply store to determine what products could be used in our scrapbook layouts. This was a very dangerous mission as I was approached by the office supply store employees at least a dozen times during my mission - I think they thought I was casing the joint. So I can’t do this alone!!! Your mission, should you accept it, is to visit the nearest office supply store and stock up on some cool scrapbook layout embellishments! Here is a Top Secret Report FOR YOUR EYES ONLY to get you started on your mission!

As we all know our scrapbooking hobby can be a wonderful way to preserve memories and pass on a legacy to our children and families. But it can also be expensive and addicting. I love spending my leisure time scrapbooking and shopping for new supplies. Nevertheless, it's hard to keep up with the latest and greatest trends when new companies come out with cool new products so often. So our mission is to find some great alternatives at the local office supply store.

In the first aisle I found a roll of cork four feet long for $11.99. Granted, the cork needed to be unrolled, some heavy books laid on it for a few days to flatten it out, but it tore easily and made a very nice border on a school layout. I also used an ordinary stapler with blue staples (a variety of colored staples are found in office supply stores!) to create a pocket on the photo mat.

A 28 cent wooden ruler also makes a nice accent on a “back to school” layout. Don't forget to use a Dymo label maker to create word accents. I love my inexpensive Dymo Label Maker. It’s great for instant titles or journaling in a variety of colors. Plus it’s fun to use. It also works great with 3/8” strips of cardstock. After embossing, gently rub the letters with sandpaper to cause the letters to show up white on the colored background.

In the school supply section, our local office supply store had 8.5 x 11 pocket folders with my daughter’s high school logo. I grabbed a few of these to cut and use as photo mats or background embellishments.

They also had a wonderful selection of ...READ A LOT MORE HERE:
