Saying goodbye to MJ

Jackie, Lissa, Celina, Charlotte and I have all used one of Michael Jackson's songs as inspiration to create these layouts and a card. Jackie,Lissa and Celina are each loving Rock with You and I chose P.Y.T. and Charlotte chose Smile, MJ's favorite song :) We show our support to the many fans of MJ and send our condolences to his family as they go through this time.

Michael Jackson has been such an icon and for most of my life I have known his music. I remember that on the fourth floor of our house I would play the "Off the Wall" album over and over again, dancing all over the place careful not to skip the record :) So sad to see his star fade.

Rest in Peace Michael.

I made this LO using a photo of a Toby Mac concert...but I thought it goes so well with the "meaning" of what Michael legacy represent for me. His music was something out of this world, it trespassed generations and impact the entire music industry. I grew-up listing and dancing his music and why not..also dancing Triller!! and who doesn't right? But more that all that he raised awareness for social causes around the globe. He helped many children around the world and his legacy will never be forgotten.
Some important facts about Michael and his legacy
1. Michael started his music career at age 5
2. Owns the world’s best selling album, “Thriller”. Thevolume of 104 million copies created the Guinness’s record in 2006.
3. first singer from America and Europe to perform in Asia
4. Michael Jackson’s unique dance, Moon Walk, became a classic model

I loved to dance to his music when I was young. The first scrapbook I ever made was of all the MJ stuff I could get my hands on. I think it started my love for scrapping. He made a great impact on this world and helped many children.

He will be missed.

Getting to know Celina

Celina, Lead Sweethearts Artist has created a layout this month using a sketch borrowed from www.inspiredblueprints.typad.com. I thought we would also check in with Celina and spend time getting to know her some more :)


Hi, my name is Celina. My favorite color is Blue, favorite number is 7 and I love ice cream! I live in Florida with my Husband, 3 teenage boys, 2 dogs, 4 cats and 2 bearded Dragons. I have a younger brother and I am also an Identical Twin. My sister lives in Atlanta with her family. I started scrapping when my kids were little because I wanted to record their lives. I started slow and have worked up to what I have today. (Way too much stuff!!) But I love it. I work for our family company and that allows me to have a flexable schedule for the kids. I love being around my family. We live one neighborhood over from my mom and dad and a few miles from my brother. Wish we could get my sister to move back!
I love to scrap about my family, especially my boys. My hubby encourages my love of scrapping and will encourage me to scrap if I am stressed or have had a bad day. He knows it make me feel better. He is always supportive of my hobbies. (Posing for many pictures and letting me spend money on supplies.) My boys have grown to love to be photographed. (They did not have a choice!!)
For me, scrapping has become part of my life and I love it. I love to try new things. I have just ordered Alcohol Inks and cannot wait for them to come in the mail.

1. Tell me all about the start of your art, How did your scrapbooking begin?
I've always loved doing different crafts and started 1 or 2 scrapbooks growing up. But in 2005 my scrapbooking obsession began. My husband and I got married in May 2004 and by Jan 2005 the military sent us packing and we were headed across the country to our new home in Virginia. I left all my family and friends back in Arizona. As a way to keep myself occupied and to document our new life together I found scrapbooking as wonderful outlet I could do on my own and later own with new friends at crops.













2. Do you have a scrap style that you feel you can relate most to? I can't say I have a favorite style or one I use most. My LOs can be clean and simple, to ones with a million little details. I'd like to say it' mostly modern with a retro touch.






































3. Do you have a stand-by element/paper line or tool that you must use when you scrap? I love card stock!! Black and Kraft cardstock dominate my stash. But that doesn't mean I haven't aimed to acquire every color of the rainbow. Bazzill is my favorite company for cardstock. As for a tool I love my Fiskar Trimmer.



4.Do you have a favorite technique? I love inking the edges of everything. I like the distressed look and the look of a colored frame around my pictures and papers. Brown and & Black are the main inks I use, both are Color Box Fluid Chalk Ink Pads.

5.If you could not shop for one year...would your scrap space be emptied or would you still have product? I would still have plenty of product to play with, lol, with with the exception of adhesive. Scary huh?








































6.Can you tell something about yourself that others would be shocked to learn? I'm hispanic, got the looks, got the attitude and even get a minor accent from time to time, but to be honest I can't speak spanish to save my life (other than taco and hola). I can understand nearly everything, but for speaking, nope, can't do it. My husband is anglo american and he speaks and understands it better than me.

7.If you could make one outfit out of scrapbooking paper what line would it be from? Currently, I'd have to say I adore October Afternoon's Cherry Hill Line, I'd love a summer dress using a varitey of the patterns from the line. For the season the colors are beautiful and bright.

8.What makes you a groovy chick? I don't follow rules. I like learning new techniques. I love making everything my own even it it looks a little unique and may or may not have imperfections. Scrabooking is all about telling your story the way you see it. Funky & Groovy is what it's all about.

Meet Christina Ouellette

Groovy Green Goddess

My name’s Christina and I love scrapbooking! However, I have yet to figure out how to make a career out of it, so I work full time as a clinical pharmacist in the Hepatology department at MCV. My “green” journey started a little over a year ago. I have always been a huge recycler and convinced many others to do the same, but I decided to take it a few steps further... I first started looking into taking the bus to work when gas prices hit almost $4 a gallon. I discovered an express park-n-ride less than two miles away and was so excited to tell my husband about it. Imagine my shock, when he asked me to just “shut up”! He had much better news-our social worker had called and we had been matched with a beautiful baby boy in Korea. Our long adoption journey was about to come to an amazing end. With our new addition came added expenses, which were not improved when my husband’s company went under in February. We quickly needed to find ways to cut back. We realized with all of our recycling that we were accumulating very little trash. We cancelled our service and now split a service with our neighbors. Early spring we planted our first garden and can now enjoy fresh produce every day. To keep the garden looking rich, we started composting, which further cut down our trash. My next “green” venture will be to get my son out of Pull-ups and on to big boy underwear, making my trash almost non-existent. We also have a fall garden plan to keep the vegetables coming until winter. I just discovered today that I can purchase my bus passes pre-tax, making “go green, ride purple” even more affordable! I would love to hear the many ways everyone else is “going green” :)

Everyone wants a treehouse!!!

When I was little and I bet you too I know you wanted a treehouse. If you did not get one why not make one today? Charlotte did and here is one which is easily constructed just not one you can climb into ;)

This is Super easy. The first thing I did was go to Micheals and went into the wooden section. They have LOTS of goodies just waiting for someone to paint, paper, whatever. I took this wooden clipboard and added this paper to it. I am sorry I don't know what paper co this is. I then just added stickels to the heart at the top and a random chipboard word at the bottom. This was truely a project that was a piece of paper here and spare word there. I loved making this Tree House.

This month our Digi team leader Mandi created a layout to represent the celebration we all love here in Amercia, July 4th! Happy Fourth Everyone!

Wallpaper and Scrapbooking?

An official from the city I live in called me to ask if I would teach kids in the community how to scrapbook. As I always do, I jumped at the chance to teach another person what I have learned about this craft form I call art.
She told me that there is a local store who sells wallpaper and she knew they would be willing to donate old wallpaper books, if this is something I could use. Sure enough I drove over there and was handed several of their books headed for the recycle stash. I sat down with a few of the sheets from one of the books and came up with a layout. The papers coordinate so well that it completely took the guess work out of the process and I think will make it easy for the kids too! Oh, the only other thing I used was a Fiskars Squeeze Punch known as Nice Tri...FUN! Then again which of the squeeze punches aren't fun? I cannot wait to work with the kids again this month and let them play with my punches ;)

Check your local wallpaper store. You never know what might be there waiting to be used for inspiration.

Sidenote: Make copies of your photos. Since the wallpaper is not made for archival projects, you may want to use a copy when creating with it or buy a spray used for archiving.

Zero Angles Challenge for July 2009

This month the If It's Groovy Challenge is to create a layout using zero angles. It can be harder than you think because that means squares are not what we are looking for. You know all of that pretty scrapbooking paper you just had to have because it was shaped in something other than a square? Now is the time!

Happy Canada Day!

Our Sketch Artist Guylaine lives in the beautiful country of Canada. As her neighbor to the south I knew that they celebrate Canada Day. I thought it would be great if she could share with those of us in other countries about their experience in Canada when July 1 appears on the calendar.
