Donna Summer Tribute

Sadly we lost a famous singer again this year and I remember well her music from the Disco Days! Her music was upbeat and really catchy. To say goodbye to this Disco Queen I have created this layout of my girls on a bowling date for my niece's birthday and titled it "Hot Stuff" which was one of the goodies but oldies by Donna Summer.
I like to use the gallon, quart, pint, ounce method for color on my projects. To help stick with this method I added color using a technique that was out of necessity. My alphabet letters for the title would not stick very well so I broke out the Elmer's glue and mixed a little bit of acrylic paint right into the glue. It tinted my glue just enough to brush over the letters and bring out some of the color that needed to become my ounce of color. I painted the bracket using the same inky glue and left it a little darker and drippier. Give it a try; It's so much fun! I used another favorite Fiskars punch on this one in a non traditional way too. I punched and ripped it up a little to distress my punching. This punch is called the Notebook Border Punch. Get one! They are very cool!

New Crush

I made this layout this past week with my Liftateer friends at the Fiskateer site and I have to say I am having a paper crush!!! On NSD I visited Scrapdoodles where I picked up this package that had stickers, papers and coordinating cardstock called Blissful made by Aunthentique. I thought it went well with my daughter's ballet pictures so well. I am in love, literally :) :) :) Follow the link to go see the gallery of assorted papers that would have been in the kit if I had gotten all of it that day. I realize I am going to have more, LOL! Don't ya love addictions?

See ya Later Tammy

Sadly Tammy's tour has come to an end on IIG. She had gone back to work so we are happy for her! For her last project she has a layout of a little ring bearer. It is a lovely lo! Good luck Tammy, we will miss you! Deb♥ "Ring Bearer" Another layout from my wedding. I used a lot of "The Girls Paperie" mixed with some vintage buttons and vintage music from a hymnal type book :)

A Mom Page for Mother's Day Month

Well Mom's Day should be Mom's Month right? I know as a mom of two how my hands are full, so a longer celebration would be superb! Agree? Here is a BEAUTIFUL page from Jean showing off her mom :) Deb♥ I found this photo of my mom circa 1952. She looks so serene and you would not know she is about to give birth to my twin sister and I. The flowers are made from the fabric left over from my bridesmaids dresses. It is 36 years old! For some reason I have yards of it!

THUMBPRINTING: Tammy

When I got our Family Fun magazine I tore this page out....what a great idea for my thumbprint! My only problem was I didn't have a page right now to add it to, so what I decided to do was make some of my own handmade printed paper. I just did it down opposite sides of two pieces of cardstock so I could use them for a future two page layout. Well, that was fun, so then I decided to make a card, that I can have on hand and just add a sentiment later, then a tag, and last I had some scrap kraft paper on hand, and I did two 12 inch vines and fussy cut them out so that I can use them as borders. It's so fun to make your own stuff :)

Thumb Printing Challenge in a Card

Our challenge this month was shown earlier in the month. Michelle created a card using thumb prints too. Check it out! Deb♥

When I first read this DT Challenge...Flowers and a Bumblebee popped in my mind! Then the saying came to me. Since I do not have a perfectly green thumb even through I have tried. The best I have come was after using green ink! So, the saying came in: "I may not have a green thumb," Inside card: "but these thumbs can make a pretty card!" Used Pink and Yellow ink to make my thumb prints. Then used a pink glitter pen to doodle the tulip shape. Using a black pen I doodled the Bumblebee stripes and body. Fussy cut the tulip flower heads and popped them with foam tape and added the stems with a stamp. since the Bumblebee had more detail I cut him out with an oval cutter.

Friday Night Sketch with Michelle

Hi Everyone, Here is hoping you have a great start to your scrappy weekend! Michelle created this sketch and has an example to show us. Hoping this inspires you to jump start you tonight! Enjoy, Deb♥

Alphabets and Numbers

We all have so many alphabets and numbers in excess don't we? For me that includes my foam stamps! I love my Li'l Davis Designs foam stamps called Printer's Block. Correction, LOVE. They are all close to 2" or smaller. Over on the Fiskateer board through this weekend there is a Stamp Out online crop where all projects must include stamps. I made this one based on the challenge to use alphabets and numbers. Katelyn is sharing dinner with Selah, so glad to have my camera nearby for this one. Kids!

Digi Stamping on Cards

I see a lot of digi stamping onto cards lately. I am thinking there must be a lot of great companies out there that we have not found! Heather would like to show us one of hers today. This card reminds me of the very first challenge here on IIG where we took pics of our favorite tea cup and use them in layouts.
Deb♥

This spider was one of the first digital stamps that I colored using my copic markers! It was so cute that I just couldn't pass it up! My aunt loves teapots and teacups so I just made a simple little card, added the colored image and there ya go! A little metal sentiment that says "hello" and all done! (She absolutely loved it by the way!)

Toot Toot...

When I saw this layout Michelle made I started singing the ever popular Popeye song and seriously laughed out loud at how cute this turned out! Check it out :)
Deb♥

I nick-named my son, Popeye after I saw the photos from his 1st Birthday photo shoot. He had his chin stuck out and lips just so...all he needed was a pipe!

Since there was no Popeye themed scrappy supplies available when I started this page. I went online and found a few websites. Copied a few pictures and One listing Popeye's Stats, which was perfect for my journaling. Not sure if you can read them:
Popeye's reads Luke's reads
Age: 34 Age: 13 months
Weight: 156 lbs. Weight: 22 lbs. 15 ounces
Neck: 8" Neck: None
Forearms: 20" Head Circumference: 46 cm
Chest: 30" normal Forearms: Ample
Chest: 60" expanded Chest: Like A Brick
Spinach Capacity: 36 tons Spinach Capacity: So-So
Height: 5'6" Height: 31 inches
Hair: Red Hair: Red
Biceps: 7" Biceps: Building Them Up
Thigh: 20" Thigh: Getting Ready to Walk
Calf: 7" Calf: Mastered Army Crawl At Top Speed

I put down Neck: None under my son's stats, because we joke my husband has no neck and looks like my son is going to build like him. I added/changed a few items to fit my son and since I had measurements from the Dr. visit!
I printed everything out on cardstock paper that I sprayed with Archival Mist. After they dried I printed everything up. I added the Popeye theme song too!
Off set my matting with read and inked up the edges of the images or journaling with red or blue ink.

Hope you smirk at My Popeye curled lip and off-set jaw!
"Cause I eats me spinach.
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man."

Aflutter by Penny

Penny has a beautiful granddaughter and she is here today with her beautiful smile :)
Would it not be wonderful to keep this smile on all day?
Deb♥

This layout is of my granddaughter Madison, she is always closing her eyes when she smiles! Since this photo was large, and the layout had a lot of embellishments, I added a hidden journal box, behind the photo. It is the brown label next to her face. I left the journal block empty so that her mother could write her a note on it herself. (Trust me she has plenty of my handwriting!)

The supplies for this layout include:
Patter Paper -
Recollections Glorious Garden - Chelsea Garden 125172 83916-2009-11
Brown heart - unknown, I've had it forever
Yellow polka dot border - Basic Grey
Cardstock - Green & Black - DCWV
Border strips - K & Co. 30614772 SW Nature Icon, the other strip is from K & Co also but I don't have that number.
Flower Punch - McGill Buttercup petal - P/N 64005L
Heart Punch - Marvy Uchida
Brads - Recollections - round and square
Large Butterfly - This is actually a Christmas tree ornament - Holiday Time - BC Butterfly X10481
Martha Stewart - Gems
Letter Stickers - Colorbox

For a neat technique I added the square brads in the holes of the light tan border strip. I hope I have inspired you to create something this week! Happy Scrapping! Love Penny

Have a HAPPY MOTHER"S DAY!!!

Did you sleep in this morning? I hope so because it is YOUR day, OUR day :) I did and was well needed after a three day weekend of dance recital. This was a beautiful gift to see my youngest dance, but I am exhausted, lol! As a gift to my mom, who has not been feeling too well herself, I bought her a ticket to see Katelyn dance. She had a few tears seeing her youngest granddaughter in all her glory ;) I know the feeling! EVERY time Katelyn dances her ballet numbers I get emotional. Today I thought I would share the pic my husband took of the three of us there last night.

Mother's Day Week: Michelle

As we celebrate mother's this week I am happy to bring to you a wonderful event that took place with Michelle and her little dollbaby as she went and had her first pedicure! What a treat and a very special day for both mom and daughter!

Mother's Day Week: Michelle

Mother's Day is just around the corner and today I have a layout made by Michelle to share with you in honor of our special day. She and her sweet little daughter are working together. Isn't that exactly what being a mom is all about? We learned a few weeks ago that Michelle's mother was seamstress and it looks as though that talent is becoming generational!!! Wonderful job Michelle and Michelle's Mommy!

Tag!

Over our special holiday, National Scrapbook Day, I had the utmost pleasure of driving to a store in Northern VA called Scrapdoodles!

So much fun to spend my favorite non-Christian holiday doing what I love!!! I found lots of new scrappy goodies that I am looking forward to using and sharing on my projects here :)

Fiskateers was having an online crop and although I did not have a lot of time to participate I did make a little tag that was fun for me and used a new gymnastics sticker that I found at Michael's last week. Our instructions were to use a punch as a stencil so I used Fiskars Cloud Squeeze punch

then attached it to the tag, painted over it, let dry then removed the clouds which were now white :)

Here is how it turned out and now I just need to get pictures of Katelyn this coming week/weekend during her recital performing gymnastics and I will be able to add to my layout. I love getting layouts ready before the pictures are even taken!!!

Have a good night!

THUMBPRINTING; Heather

I had a layout completely done for this challenge but did NOT LIKE IT!!! I ripped the whole thing apart, saving only the picture. Then I started over!

My whole layout was inspired by the letters for the title of this page. I used different colors of distress ink and my kids' thumbs to do the background of this layout to match those letters and then built the remainder of the layout around it, keeping with the circles and colors of the letters.

THUMBPRINTING: Michelle

Now what to do for a layout using my thumbs! And what could I doodle/draw comfortably...Then I remembered our visit to a fish pond packed with Koi! Next, was hoping I do print those pictures!
I had 4 perfect pictures ready to go and a stamp set I have been wanting to put to use!

I was hoping to get my daughter (who is in the photos) to share her thumbs with me. But she was already asleep when I when to work on this page. So, I used my thumb, index and pinky fingers for a variety. Also, used an orange, red-orange and yellow ink to match the fish colors in the photos. Doodled my fish fins and fussy cut them. Cut out the words "Here Fishy Fishy" and stamped them using a snake print stamp. To add some detail and dimension, I edged the words with a bright neon gel pen. Matted my photos with the same neon paper, which is trending now too! Popped up some of the title words and fish with foam tape/dots. Added some Blue ink thumb prints to make a pond on the corner of the page. Wrote my journaling and date on the page! TA DAH! I love how this page came out and the way the Kraft Cardstock and Neon show together!

THUMBPRINTING: Penny

This month's challenge at If it's Groovy was a "real" challenge for me! Not because the challenge was hard, but because I worked on a printing press for 17 years, and had ink on my hands everyday at work, and I found it really hard to get my hands inky again! LOL But after getting past the "inky" problem, I had a ball! After looking at some "thumbprint art" on the internet for a while I decided on this "Easter" themed layout. The photos were taken at my grand children's school during their Easter egg hunt. The kids were all lined up with their homemade Easter baskets eagerly waiting to get to those eggs, and then the "hunt" was on! The journaling reads: School Easter egg hunt. "Matthew in his blue suit, and Madison in her blue dress, they were beautiful. They had a ball! 2010" Supplies for this layout include: Cardstock - Green, orange, light orange, light green, light yellow, med orange Pattern paper - Glitter paper, and grass pattern paper (the grass paper is really old, but worked great for this layout. Ink - Brilliance pink, and G studios green, yellow and light blue. Scissors - deckle, and pinking Punches - Martha Stewart sunburst, border bow, McGill flower punches. Stickers - Words "Easter", basket, chick, where all purchased years ago! Photo borders were made on Kodak picture maker. Assorted fibers. Brads I also sewed the journal block. A tip for making this kind of layout is to let your "thumbprint" dry completely before you try drawing on it, I had to redraw several of mine in order to make them dark enough. Also I suggest practicing on some scrap sheets first to get the feel of how much pressure to make and how larger to make your thumbprints. Hope you have fun making your own "Thumbprint" layout, and let your kids help you for an added treasure! Love Penny

This technique is a fun way to add a little extra to pattern paper you already have in your stash! I printed the flowers then outlined them in black. The tree leaves are various shades of green.

May Groovy Challenge: Thumbprinting!

This month I have challenged each of the Groovy Chicks to put their spin on a layout that includes fingerprinting. Do you know there are all sorts of projects that you can make that you can include them and it will leave a personal touch to those one day who will be your descendants? True! Come along and participate if you wish and in the meantime we hope you enjoy all of those we create this month!

Here is mine! I used my fingerprints and my children's as well to create the little ♥'s! You might know how much I love them ")
