I loved, loved, loved the colors of this January Flashback Challenge!!!!  I am not sure that I can begin to tell you what companies I used on this layout because I just started looking for everything that would match these colors and pulled it out!  And I LOVE how it turned out!  I had soooo much fun doing this challenge and can't wait for next months!!!Hope you enjoy it too!!

Journaling reads: Whether it's @ bedtime, reading a book in the recliner after a hot tball game or watching tv, mom and boys love to cuddle!!  This picture was taken in the summer of 2010!  Obviously I don't scrap chronologically and I am no where close to being caught up!  lol!

Scrap Snob: Brenda

I decided to get snobby this month with Simple Stories.  One reason I chose this brand was because it has mini as well as large letters.   I am a Thickers snob, and do not like using my Cricut to cut letters or to make embellishments, unless I absolutely have to.

It's Day 2 with Wendy! Enjoy!!!

I found this quick and easy template on how to make a gift bag.  I'm so glad I have so much Christmas scrapbook paper!  See, hoarding papers can be a good thing!  :)
I used this template and these measurements:

I used a 10" x 12" sheet of paper to start.
Starting with the 12" side, score these following measurements:
1"
1.5"
4"
4"
1.5"

On the 10" side, score a line 1.5 inches along the whole length.
Cut small notches on the indicated spots to make folding a little bit easier.

Fold along all the scored lines, and adhere the 1" side to the last 1.5 inch side.  You should now have a rectangular shape. 
Fold in all 4 pieces of the bottom and adhere. 

Finally, punch small holes at the top of the bag and thread some ribbon ( I used twine).  Tie the knots on the inside of the bag so they don't show. 

I stuffed a small sheet of tissue paper inside and hid a gift card.

When Groovy Deb gave us this challenge, I did not think it would be a challenge for me!  I love using kits, collections, etc from the same paper line.  The challenge then became "Which paper line am I going to use?"  Now that was a challenge!  I love so many.  In the end, I ended up going with Basic Grey's Oliver Collection.  With having 4 boys, this collection was soooo perfect when I bought it (how long ago we won't discuss)!  And I bought the WHOLE ENTIRE collection!  Now I finally have a reason to use it!

So quick and so easy!!
Another idea for a gift card!

For a 4" x 6" envelope, you will need a 8" x 12" sheet of paper.

Place your paper down with the 8" side horizontal.  Score at the 2" and 6" marks.
Do the same for the 12" side.

You can either score small arcs on all 4 sides or simply cut small notches or tabs.
Fold the sheet on all 4 scored sides.

Place the gift card or greeting card into the center.
Tuck each end under the next end.  To keep it all together, I adhered some pretty ribbon all around the whole envelope.  Then I added a few chipboard stickers and a gift tag.

I used all Close to my Heart(CTMH) products to complete this page. The papers are from the CTMH Mayberry Collection. Inked Distressed the edges using CTMH Chocolate ink and Fussy cut out the stamped title using CTMH Token Alphabet. Used CTMH fine tip side of the Chocolate Marker for my journaling. Distressed the CTMH Chocolate Cardstock using CTMH Edge Distresser. Stamped the Month using CTMH Classmate Alphabet and the Date using CTMH Amore Numbers. The Pumpkin/Indian Corn image is from CTMH Thanksgiving stamp that I used the CTMH inks and Blending Pen. I did use my Sew Easy Tool to mark out my stitching BUT I did use CTMH twine. Picture is from 1976 but the journaled memories are current.

This is one of my favorite ways to wrap up a gift card!

I used my Cutter Bee Cutting System for this one.
I started out by using this template and these measurements:

I chose some specialty paper for the holidays.  This really shiny paper is fabulous!
I cut each sheet into an 8" x 8" piece.
You only need one sheet for each box.

You will need to score the sheet at the 3.75" mark, the 7.5" mark.
Using the template, score and cut an arch at the ends of these sections as indicated.

Use the .5" end to adhere the ends together.  Fold in one side of the score arc and adhere. 
Fill the pillow with candy and gift card.  Then fold in the other side of the scored arc and adhere.

I then added some shiny ribbons to match the papers I used.  As a final touch, I added some chipboard stickers and a small gift tag.

I hope you like it!  This is my favorite!!

Actually it was a dreaded day. My daughter determined very early on, that no boy babies would be coming home from the hospital with us. She was bound and determined that she would only accept a baby sister. It took some doing, but we did bring the boy baby home!

Now is the time to be making those Thank you cards so they will be ready after the holiday. All it takes is a few scraps, some ribbon and an embellishment or two. The kids could even help make them!

I love buying everyone gift cards for Christmas, but I really don't like just handing them out in boring envelopes. 

This year, I bought myself a treat...A Cutter Bee Cutting System and a Martha Stewart scoring board.
I wasn't sure how much use either one would get, but now that I tried them out, I'm hooked!

Here is an easy idea for a gift box using a scoring board.

This gift box measures 4" x 4" and is 3" deep.

Using this template, here are the measurements I used:

Start with  2 sheets of 10" x 10" papers.

On one sheet (the bottom), score lines at 4" on all four sides of the paper.
Cut small notches in the spots noted in the diagram, to make small tabs for easier folding.
Fold on all of the scored lines.  Adhere the small tabs to each other and adhere the sides to the tabs.

For the second sheet of paper (the top), score lines at the 3.75 marks on all 4 sides.  This will make the top just a tad larger to fit right over the bottom. 
Follow the same folding instructions for the bottom piece.

I filled each box with tissue paper hiding a gift card.  Then I added some pretty ribbons and a gift tag. 

This was actually really quick to do and my gift cards are much more fun to hand out.  :)

 

Scrap Snob: Rochelle

This month, we were challenged to be a "Snob" (LOL) and use just one paper collection for our layout.  I thought this was not going to be tough for me because I usually only use one paper collection verses different single sheets.   However, I never considered the embellishments too.... especially when it comes to the title!!!!  I LOVE Thickers and I probably use them on almost all my layouts.  But for this challenge.... I used Authentique's Loyal Collection for this layout and they don't make any alpha's like Thickers.  So I used my Cricut to cut the title, which I haven't done is quite some time!!  It actually felt good! :)   Well,  like I said, I didn't think it was going to be a challenge but it was! I ended up using just a couple little items that were not Authentique like the Trims and little metal gear.  But everything else on my layout is from the Authentque Loyal collection! :)

So fun and the kids LOVED them!

I chose to use exclusively, a fun, whimsical line from Imaginisce.  This collection has so many fun elements, and they are so many pieces to the collection, there is no need for another else!  I used four different sheets of patterned paper and a few die cuts.  I used some pop dots to give them dimension.  It's fun when you pull out a set and have everything you need right there to create a great page!

This was the easiest treat idea ever!  I simply cut some fun patterned papers into 6x6 squares.
I rolled them up into cone shapes and adhered them down the side.  I filled them with all kinds of fun candies.  Once filled, I folded down the last corner and adhered it with a fun snowflake sticker.
I made a bunch of these quick and easy treats for my kids classroom parties....55 of them!  So fun and so easy!

Fashion Faux Pas by Lindsey Krauss. Supplies: Paper, clear stickers, cardstock stickers, clear cuts: Little Yellow Bicycle, Letters: American Crafts, Twiddleybitz.

I've long since torn apart my kits and organized the contents into my scrap room, so scrapping by name wasn't so easy. However, I knew I had this one bag of "groovy" supplies and this picture I took recently, and I knew they were perfect for each other. Turns out that scrapping all in one line or manufacturer is a huge  way to save time! This page turned out in about ten minutes. The strip in the back was a scrap, but its colors fit perfectly on the already-printed page. All I had to do then was layer - the frame I put behind the picture and the flowers are about 5 different all laid out on top of one another. I pop dotted here and there to add dimension to the flowers and to the photo itself. Then I let the clear cut swirls lay where they wanted for flow and movement. I had no letters for this line, so I had to reach into my letter box - pulled out some fun laser cuts and I know I can always fall back on AC. :) That outift, on the other hand? Not so sure!

Scrap Snob: Kelly

This month’s challenge to use just one paper line was definitely a challenge for me. I tend to pull papers all the time from different kits and manufacturers depending on what I am scrapping. I figured that I would be using my Cricut to cut my alphas too since I rely heavy on my Thickers stash and other alphas that I have in the file cabinet. However, I came across the Authentique Gathering kit I had been hanging onto and it had everything I needed to be able to use just one specific line. I found a super fun sketch by Dolores Schaeffer and dug through my photos to find some adorable ones of Baxter cuddled up on me while I was driving the boat. I was excited to use some flowers on a layout again and fussy cut 4 from the papers. Then I grabbed my old Marvy Uchida leaf punch for a few leaves.

I was determined to only use this line of papers, so instead of grabbing some ribbon, I decided to make my own bow out of the papers.  I just cut the same width for the ribbon, bow and tails and then fussy cut a little flower to put in the center along with a hole-punched circle in the center of the flower.

I was so excited after making this type of bow from scrap paper. I will definitely be doing this more in the future! It just goes to show how when you are truly challenged by something, it forces you to dig deeper into your creative juices. :) Try it out and have some fun! Would love to see your project using one paper line only!

I have to admit, this was quite difficult until I got the hang of it.  :)

I used this to package up some cookies for the neighbors.

Using this template from the Cutter Bee Cutting System,  I used different shades of brown and tan...because I was baking chocolate chip cookies and they would match...lol.

Here are the measurements I used using the template:
You will need 3 sheets of 12" x 12" paper to make a canister that is 8" high and 3" wide.

The canister measures 3" in diameter.
Start with a 12" sheet of card stock.
This will be the CENTER piece of your canister.
You can cut the paper ANY height you wish.  The height of the box will not change the diameter.
I decided to make mine 8" high, for lots of cookies.

Using the other 2 sheets of paper, cut 2 circles that are 4" in diameter.  This will give you an edge to score and fold around the center piece.  Inside of each circle, score a line 1" inch from the edge.  Cut small tabs to make folding easier, as shown in the diagram.

Adhere the circles to the CENTER pieces using the tabs.  Add some ribbon around the sides to hide the tabs.

I added a bit more ribbon and some cookie cut outs.  Then I decorated a small gift tag.  Make sure you wrap the cookies before you put them inside.  :)

January Challenge: Getting Snobby Around Here!

This month I challenged y the Groovy Chicks to be  really snobby in their scrapbooking! What does that mean? It means to choose one paper line including embellishments and title alphabet and use only that one line! I Reminded everyone that this would be a great time to use a kit or cut your own alphabet when creating  your title! So as I normally do Let me show you how I completed this challenge using only Authentique.

This layout is using pictures that needed to be at scrapped on at least a 2 pager! The paper is actually completely attached to the other piece of paper, creating a 2 page layout that automatically matches :)I still took individual pictures of each side...Deb♥

Happy New Year Everyone!!! Here is to you and hoping that 2013 is a wonderful year!!! My personal goal for IIG is that we continue to bring you many beautiful projects and wonderful ideas from our amazing designers :)

WE here at IIG are taking a mini break until the end of 2012 to spend time with our families and prepare our blogs for a lot of excitement coming to you in January!!! We will have special  birthday projects and other projects so get  signed up by email if you have not done so, You will not want to miss a thing :) Our Kid Designers will be back, our Groovy Chicks have loads and loads of things to show you too!

On another note, I am having a hysterectomy on Friday morning Dec 28 and need a break  from my job here at IIG for these few days so if you will, please send up a prayer on my behalf that the doctors and nurses have the hands and strength guided by God to help me get through all of this fast and back to setting up this blog each day :)

Since my kids are slowly moving away from TV Shows that are on Disney, Nick Jr. and Treehouse (Canadian version of Sprout). They have been seeing all those TV ads from this toy or that toy. So I have been hearing, "I want that" or "That's so cool! Can you get me that!" I hear myself saying ask Santa more often.
This year was the 1st year I noticed that Sears has a WishBook still. It has been at least 15 years since I seen one.
My has the wishlist grown for my two. So, as a cute and fun Santa List I took a picture using the opposite side of one of those over the door coloring rolls. I took some of them looking at the Sears Wishbook too! BUT you will have to wait to see them on a page in the future!

What's in the Paper Bag?

Rochelle here to share with you a Winter/Christmas paper bag mini album I made about the time we went to Colorado and experienced a White Christmas for the first time ever!!.  This album was so fun to make because I decided to do a "Girls Craft Day" and had my 2 daughters and my niece (ages 13, 13, and 6) make albums too.  We had a wonderful time and their albums came out great!!!  I only helped them with the measurements and cutting of the papers, but they did all the rest, even the 6 year old!!!  :)

A Wonderful Advent Project

Christmas is almost here but it is never too early to work on an Advent Project for next yer. Here is one made by Wendy that looks like one we could really enjoy!

I started making advent calendars for my kids 2 years ago using Karen Foster's boxes.  These are so fun and easy to make!  They each have 25 little drawers that I fill with little chocolates or toys for the kids.  This year, I am also putting little notes in some of the drawers with places we can go.  The drawers are too small to put gift cards or tickets into, so I am writing little promise notes to them....or maybe just a hint using a scrapbook sticker...hmm....
I used some different colors and patterns of scrapbook papers and miscellaneous stickers for the face of each drawer.  The set comes with the number stickers.  And the top was my favorite part!  This was just a little decoration I found at the dollar store that i just attached using some glue dots!

Home Away From Home

Kelly! My ♥ is so filled with the story you have given us about the lake house! May there be many many blessings in that beautiful piece of the world :) Deb♥


 I wanted to feature a place that we visit many times a year since Mom passed and I know she would have loved it so much. My Dad made the choice to go ahead and build the lake house on the property they bought together in Christmas of 2008 before she left us in March of 2009. It was the best thing he ever did for himself and to share the love of Mom as well. Even though it is almost 4 hours away, we try to get away from the city life as much as school and sports will allow. The lake house has also become the Thanksgiving get away for our extended family as well and there has been no better place to call home away from home than here in God's country! I used the Echo Park For the Record 2 collection and a sketch from Page Maps. I hope this inspires you to scrap about a place you  love! :)

My daughter Katelyn, aka Groovy Kid Designer Katelyn, always takes such pretty pictures for me and I just love it when I can capture the joy in her eyes as she looks forward to Santa Claus' arrival with her wishlists :) Here she was last year  as we dropped off her requests at Bass Pro Shoppe in Santa's special mailbox Deb♥

 

Visiting Toys R Us

Each year I take Groovy kid Designer, Katelyn, my youngest daughter over to the toy store and take pictures of things she wants  for Christmas. It makes  the Christmas wish list a lot easier to see  what they are looking for as gifts :) This was  on her wishlist last year. She just loves it when the wishlist book comes in the mail, but I think our trip to Toys R Us each year has become a fun tradition!

Scrooge!

Who doesn't love Scrooge? I think most of us who love Christmas time need to see whichever our favorite version is. Are you a fan of Reginald Owen or are you more enticed by Alastair Sim? We cannot forget that George C. Scott and Patrick Stewart on this role as well. I bet it would be the dream of an actor to play this part :) So, Michelle is here today sharing her trip to see Scrooge, the musical. That would be fantastic for all of us fans of the show!

Seeing Santa!!!

Last year I took Katelyn to see Santa Claus at Bass Pro Shop. They were so wonderfully  taking a picture with Santa for free. What was so cute too was that there was a mailbox for the kids to leave their letters for Santa as well. This was a neat experience!

Here is what I put together for my kids to write their lists on this year. I used some oversized paper...these are 11.x 17 sheets. I cut out Santa hats from pieces of felt and added a bunch of cotton balls for the trim. Then I added each child's name using lots of Thickers letters. Good thing I stocked up on these! These will be hanging from their bedroom doors. It's easy for them to find and add to the list, and when family and friends stop by, the lists are right there for all to see, so they can start their shopping!

My girlfriend had this white letter G that she needed altered for her daughter's bedroom so I took on the challenge! Her bedroom is done in pinks, white and brown so I based my embellishing around that.

I first used alcohol inks to make the G a marbleized light pink. Then I picked out a variety of flowers to match the colors of her room. Layered them until I could get them how I liked, added some pearls to the insides and then some light pink pearl flourishes. Quick and easy!

Back in April, my hubby and I went to Cozumel for a week for R&R!  We stayed at an all-inclusive resort and even though we are not drinkers, we tried a drink called a "Dirty Monkey" (Pina Colada, Kahlua, and banana's)  that a lot of other people were drinking.  It was very delicious!

We just redone our bathroom!  It has been decorated with Mickey Mouse since we moved in over 7 years ago.  We left what the former owners had done.  But I was ready to move on.  So we tore out the MM border and painted the lower half of the wall teal with chocolate brown trim around doors and floorboards.  Added a chocolate brown chair rail and then put up some new decor.

However, in the process, I was trying to save some money!  So, I took some shoebox lids from my boys' new boots.  I covered it with scrapbook paper that matched.  I then cut the word "Bath" on my Cricut and adhered it to the bottom corner.  Set on a shelf in the corner of my half bath!

Could have bought a canvas and done the same thing, but why do that? I have shoebox lids that work the same way and costs nothing!  Hope this gives you an idea of how to recycle something that would normally end up in the trash!
